Self-addressed and stamped envelope

Hello everyone!

Let us suppose that I've decided to write a letter to a famous person from the UK, and I'm hoping for a sort of answer. So I should at least include a self-addressed and stamped envelope. The question is - how much postage should I put on it if it's addressed to Russia? I've been on the Royal Mail website, but I only got more confused. Will one 1st class stamp be enough or not?

It won't work - the one line postage only last for 1 day.

If you did want to gamble the cheapest letter for Royal Mail to Russia is £1.28 (no tracking) roughly руб 65

If you are sending your letter to someone in Russia you would need Russian stamps for the return envelope surely?

"International Reply Coupons allow you to exchange the coupon in return for postage to an overseas destination.
If you receive a coupon from abroad, just take it to the Post Office and exchange it for 76p worth of stamps. International Reply Coupons make it so much easier for you to keep in touch with friends and family in foreign lands.

- that's what the Royal Mail website says. Fine if you live in Russia and want a reply from the UK except that it's out of date and 76p was the airmail Rest Of World 10g rate BEFORE April this year.

And no good since the end of last year if you live in the UK and want a reply from Russia.

'I checked IP because it wasn't clear which direction the letters were going, and the IP is in Russia.

Okay, I see there's been some confusion, so that's how it is: I'm in Russia and I'm sending a letter to the UK, while I'm looking forward to getting a response to it back here, to Russia :)

Anyway, I wasn't talking about online postage or International Reply Coupons (I'm not even sure I can buy them around here, probably Russian Post isn't even aware that they exist). Surely I won't be needing Russian stamps for my reply envelope, because that one will be going through Royal Mail, right? This probably leaves me only one other option, so the question is - if I order stamps from the Royal Mail online shop, how many do I need for my self-addressed envelope?

By the way, I'm fine with understanding English, no need to googletranslate

It depends on the weight of the reply but 4 first class stamps will cover airmail up to 100g.

Oh, 100g is too much, I don't think it'll be more than 20, just a couple of pictures to sign, that's it. How many stamps do I need for that? Wouldn't want to overpay considerably :)

It's not a secret, I just didn't think it relevant :) It's Andrew Scott, BBC Sherlock's Moriarty.

If you weigh an open envelope with the photos inside then use this site http://www.royalmail.com/price-finder" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; to work out the price. 100g would be £2.21 (110 Roubles according to google) although I think 50g would cover it and thats £1.66 (83 roubles)

Edit 4 x 1st class @ 60p would cover the 100g price
3 x 1st class stamps would cover the 1.66 price

Russia is classed as Europe so it's 87p ( two First Class stamps ) up to 20g, £1.28p ( three First Class stamps ) up to 40g, £1.66 ( three First Class stamps ) up to 60g, £1.91 ( four First Class stamps ) up to 80g and £2.21 ( four First Class stamps ) up to 100g.

Never thought of Google Translate - that could have saved me much time.

Well then, the price of a 1st class stamp is 60p? Because I also see some stamps with actual prices on them - like 68, 76, 1.10. Can I combine those, as well, to get 1.28 or 1.66 to be 100% sure it covers the weight? Sorry for asking lame questions, I just keep getting an information overdose :)

Yes stamps with actual prices on them would be better than the 'No Value Indicator' gold '1st' but Royal Mail only sells 87p, £1.28, £1.90 etc. in sheets of 25.

Maybe you could send the photos, letter and self addressed envelope to one of us over here, with appropriate payment, for stamp(s) to be affixed and it forwarded for signature.

Hey, thanks for your offer! I wouldn't want to cause too much trouble, though. I'm actually thinking of ordering a set of Crown Jewels stamps, seems pretty thematic :) In that one there are 1st class, 68, 76 and 1.10, two of each. I'm just afraid that when I receive them, I'll be reluctant to let them go (even though I'm hoping to get them back on my envelope, hehe).
