Advice re stopping redirection
Hi all - I'd really appreciate some advice.
Someone who used to live at our house has had two separate redirections over the same number of years. They share their surname with us (and also have the same name as one of us).
This is person is receiving mail addressed to others and is not declaring (we know because items have not turned up as expected/ordered or even at all!). They are malicious and uncooperative in every sense.
Despite getting customer services and the review panel involved on countless ocassions, the redirection has not been stopped and we are now concerned for our security and that we could be subject of identity theft (I'm now contemplating changing my name by deed-poll, for what it's worth) - I didn't even receive my car tax rebnewal form this year.
The review panel will say that they'll only reconsider their decision if we can prove that we're not receiving mail (!) - which I guess is their way of telling me that they're not going to help.
Next month, the redirection will come up for renewal and we fear that this could be a cycle that continues for eternity.
This redirection should never have been granted in the first place due to the similarity of names of people living at our house. As it is, we're the victims of harrasment and abuse by proxy.
Any ideas on how I can stop this redirection from continuing or a new one being taken out by this person in future?
Thanks in advance

Thanks - that's what I hope will happen, but common sense hasn't prevailed yet.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:It should not be extended even if they apply: https://www.royalmail.com/delivery/inbo ... ns/details" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This individual took out one redirection between 2010-2011 and applied (using a different adddress, according to our postie) for a completly different redirection when the other one had ended.
I believe that this is fraudulent and dishonest and will be allowed to continue for another year, at which point, they will take out a new redirection under a different number. Hypothetically, this could go on forever: http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/in ... 719AACRAN7" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Advice re stopping redirection
I thought that when a re-direction was requested, the current householders had to agree? I know there is a letter sent to the house, and from memory, when I had one, I had to look over the details and agree to it. If there had been name issues, I had the opportunity to say no.

We did say no many many times and outlined the reasons - i.e. several people having the same or similar combinations of initials etc. Customer services claimed that there would not be a problem and have consistantly refused to deal with it ever since.NewPostieUK wrote:I thought that when a re-direction was requested, the current householders had to agree? I have had this a few times on my walk where the new occupants have the same surname as the old ones and I just give the redirection to a manager and they get it cancelled

That would be the sensible thing to do - our normal postie & his relief have both petioned management.PhilthyPhil wrote:I have had this a few times on my walk where the new occupants have the same surname and the old ones and I just give the redirection to a manager and they get it cancelled
Local management have tried to stop it but have been overruled by Postal Review Panel/Customer Services.
Honestly, you could not make it up....

Re: Advice re stopping redirection
Thinking outside the box would it be worth making an unofficial approach to management and see if they would agree to something like this.
1. All post for your address is delivered with no redirection.
2. You check all and then endorse the ones for Redirection - for example write R/D near the address.
3 You promise to pop them back into the system within 24 hours. (Do not hand them to the postie this is dangerous (job wise) for them).
4. On arrival at the frame the Postie redirects all letters endorsed in the agreed manner.
However, I must state they probably won't go for it as its unofficial and outside the specifications for re-delivery, but its a possible solution and might just work if all parties can agree.

Re: Advice re stopping redirection
Local management did suggest something along those lines when we found out that a new redirection (not a renewal) was started in Nov 2011, but quickly changed their tune after the Review Panel (who we had petitioned to stop this lunacy happening for another year) apparently spoke to them.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Thinking outside the box would it be worth making an unofficial approach to management and see if they would agree to something like this.

Re: Advice re stopping redirection
To prove you aren't receiving mail, why not send a self-addressed Special Delivery item? As this has full track & trace it will be easy to prove that you didn't receive the mail and obtain the signature of the person who did. You might have to do it a couple of times, so it might cost a bit, and you will have to make sure you keep all the proofs of sending etc. But it seems to me that this is the best possible proof you can obtain of non-receipt of mail to take back to the review panel.PostHaste wrote:The review panel will say that they'll only reconsider their decision if we can prove that we're not receiving mail (!) - which I guess is their way of telling me that they're not going to help.

I just hope that customer services/review panel would take the results seriously - they have had a very sadistic sense of humour so far.
For what it's worth, I think that if there are any signs that redirection services etc are impracticable, they should be stopped immediately. The fact that they're sold to stop fraudulent behaviour is the best joke that I've heard in ages.

Special Delivery can't be re-directed anyway, or shouldn't be, from what I understand.

Re: Advice re stopping redirection
I know that recorded delivery isn't supposed to be redirected so would assume that it's the same for special delivery.NewPostieUK wrote:Special Delivery can't be re-directed anyway, or shouldn't be, from what I understand.
So I guess I'm back to square one where post of mine is going awry and because I can't prove that I'm not receiving letters from companies etc, this can carry on ad-infinitum.

Re: Advice re stopping redirection
As TBT said, both SD and RD can be redirected in the UK. SDs will be returned to the registered letter enclosure by the postie once the new address sticker has been attached and the person in the RLE has to scan it to say it's being redirected. This prevents delay claims as it will show on the tracking system that it's being redirected due to official redirection in place. Hopefully(?) that will happen if you send yourself something and you can then prove that the redirection needs to be ceased immediately.PostHaste wrote:I know that recorded delivery isn't supposed to be redirected so would assume that it's the same for special delivery.NewPostieUK wrote:Special Delivery can't be re-directed anyway, or shouldn't be, from what I understand.
