Two bags 16kg max then a max of 11kg for each subsequent bag and 9 kg if going up blocks of flats.

I am no superman and have been doing this job for 24yrs and fully use my bag drop facility.

I find the HCT s seemed to have caused just as much wear and tare on the body than anything else , eg bad backs pushing up hills etc.

I do the job to the letter take breaks etc and cannot see how this isn't doing the job properly.

In fact if we used this policy we would still have more staff on the payroll,as we would need more drivers and there would be less stress on the job. :wave
if your duty was planned to use a bag then the time allowed would be less as its a faster rate put into georoute for walking with pouch than with a trolley, hence use trolley=more hours for delivery in your office

HCT are supposed to be used on relatively flat ground, shouldnt be going up hills with them

Don't you mean 1 bag upto 16Kg and all other 11Kg max, plus was it not lower than 9Kg for staired flats (not that many actually took notice of this)?

In my experience since P&L, HCT duties' delivery spans are achievable depending upon the attendence and signature item count, pushing the HCT everywhere and not going out with a pouch while taking all meal reief etc. The problem is that people who are buying things in this financial crisis are looking for the best possible deals which are often online, so we as posties have many more packets to deliver than the planners have allowed for in the walk size/design.

It also does not help that many OPGs still credit all o/t on the claim sheets as being "extended delivery" when it can often be attributed to prep and/or IPS taking longer than has been allowed for... 3 solid trays of sequenced; upto 9 completely filled trays of manual; upto 6 D2D to throw in (often with >25% shared slots in the frame); upto 3.5 sacks of packets; deads; 20 mins meal relief; plus general indoor work (IPS sorting; porter; packet sorting) all done in 3 hours? ;liar :left:

The "It hasn't done me any harm" argument is very weak, that's a survey of one and hardly credible evidence that carrying up to 16kg of mail on your back is harmless.

I could believe that for delivering to a block of flats while using a HCT, but it is important to note that after locking up the HCT, you should be getting the HCT back in sight every two minutes in a depot area assessed as "high risk." This might well mean breaking off from delivering in the flat block to look out of a window, or even physically walking most of the way back to the HCT before resuming deliveries, failure to do so without having emptied the HCT completely of mail/packets is a security breach with disciplinary actions if caught by management or the Investigation Bureau.

You're only allowed to carry bags that weigh less than 8kilo...if the duty has specifically been planned to use 8kilo bags due to either terrain issues or delivering to flats.
You are not allowed to simply take a duty designed for use with the LWT and replace the trolleys with bags...no matter what weight you put in them.

I have suffered RSI in my wrist and elbow from using the LWT. As the driver in a van share I find it much less damaging to my body to have a light bag across my shoulder. This way the weight is evenly distributed over my body rather than just straining certain joints. I know which method works best for me, not RM.
What have I done to deserve this?

Like I've said in a previous post, RM managers will eventually turn a blind eye to using bags and not trollies. If it means they dont have to deliver the mail or employ agency staff they'll be happy as it saves them money. We now have more houses to deliver to, more pkts to carry, using a trolley which is slower.
