A couple of things guys.
1. Try not to quote all the post it makes it difficult to pick up relevant points. My advice is to quote only the parts of the post that are relevant to your comment.
2. This is the Customer Forum where customers come seeking advice from an unofficial source. We would prefer that contributors only post comments/advice that deal with the original question. Ergo if you advise a customer to contact someone then leave it at that don't create more noise by superfluous comments on why you think they should have followed your advice, for one they may have already done that, for two, its looks petty and unprofessional. If you really want to vent your anger or frustration then use the Blue Shirts area, perhaps even the http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... 167#p94874" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
In light of the above I will now trim this thread and amend/delete some posts.

Re: Failed delivery ISF - item being returned. Who is liabl
Good point which I hadn't thought about. I'm already on the verge of having a dispute opened then having to refund the guy so it might be the lesser of two evils. At least I can prove it got to it's destination now I'm aware it can be tracked on the GLS site. That said, I suppose that anyone could sign for it at the guys place of work leaving me without the item having spent £30 on postage...Sidley wrote:Does sending it to his workplace, an address probably NOT listed in the customer's PayPal account, not leave you wide open to all sorts of trouble?

I've been trying to check the status of the item for the past 24hrs and now no data is available on either of the search options. Does anyone have any idea why I'm unable to view the tracking data anymore?

The item is back with me now and it still had the return address attached to it.
Just asked the buyer what he wants to do now - refund or try again?

It was sent in blue plastic packaging and there wasn't anything attached to the box apart from the GLS labels. I'm guessing that the failure of the buyer to collect or re-arrange delivery can be the only reason and UNDELIVERED FORCE MAJEURE will be their explanation. Quite hard for the guy to contact the courier if they failed to leave him a card though - he is a thoroughly trustworthy chap so I believe him about the lack of a card. Maybe he lives in an apartment block or something and they couldn't access his mail box, who knows?

You may have hit the problem on the head there, lots of customers sending to portugal recently had similar issue and the issue wasMJC808 wrote: Maybe he lives in an apartment block or something and they couldn't access his mail box, who knows?

so if he has the german equivelant of an apartado box then they probably wont attempt to deliver it, if it was returned to you there should have been a pink sticker on it with the reason for nondelivery in french(possibly english as well) on itThe Royal Mail’s use of a private courier company to send parcels from the UK to Portugal as opposed to using the national CTT postal service, has caused some upset among residents, as the courier does not deliver to ‘apartado’ postal boxes, sending these parcels back to the sender.

Re: Failed delivery ISF - item being returned. Who is liabl
On GLS Germany, they use Force Majeure quite a lot for returned parcels - it's like their catch all reason for why an item is being returned.
Now when they return it, they should provide a reason on the packaging. There should be a sticker on it, saying for example - address incomplete, not collected etc - if the package does not have that, then you can claim for Incorrect Return to Sender, which can get you your postage back.
