Confusion on postal address

Post by f16570 »

Hi All,

Would really appreciate some help on a postal address.
Our house is calledPinewood Cottage since circa 1930. Someone has refurbished a cottage less than a mile away and we are now receiving mail for the occupants addressed as Pinewood Cottage, the village shares the same postcode for all twenty houses and hotel.
Who can I contact to have this issue resolved?

Many thanks

The postie is delivering correctly even if it's wrong, try asking the postie to only deliver the post with your name on it...........or calling the delivery office and asking them to do the same.

I thought there was something that the local councils had to abide by when allowing the naming of new properties? I remember on PAF where I couldn't put a house name in for a property locally because there was another in the same postcode area with the same name. However, neither property had a road name to distinguish them, just the postcode...

If there are 2 different road names, then I don't think much can be done about it. However, if it's just "pinewood cottage, village name, same first part of postcode" for both addresses, the second one should be looked into by the local council.

Contact the Address Management team at Royal Mail Address Maintenance Unit, Sunderland, SR3 3XW, email addressdevelopment@royalmail.com or addressmaintenance@royalmail.com with your address and your query, and they will probably confirm that yours is the only Pinewood Cottage thereabouts on Royal mail's database in which case the new property shouldn't be using that name.
There is also a need to register each property with your Local Authority.

No road names only house name, village, all addresses have the same postcode e.g. Ab125cd

You need to be speaking to the person in the other 'Pinewood Cottage'.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

http://www.voa.gov.uk/cti/InitS.asp?lcn=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

it will give you the official names of all the houses on your postcode, i'll bet the council hasnt authorized them to call their cottage the same as yours

I'd contact the fire brigade as well. They might get it sorted quicker.
They ain't going to want to turn up at the fire at Pinewood Cottage only to find the fire is at a different Pinewood Cottage.
They tend to be pretty "hot" on that sort of thing.

Indeed, and Pinewood Cottage is likely to be more at risk than Stone Cottage.
