PPI drop-off at Post Office - sacks have to be left open !!
I have run out of yellow posting dockets so I have been told by Royal Mail Business Centre that when I drop off my mail sacks at the Post Office, I have to leave them unopened!! (I have always sealed them with a bag tie and added the STL label to the stack).
As I expected, my local post office knows nothing about this, and I have dropped off a sack today OPENED with the Sales Order inside, along with the black tag and the STL label (as informed by the business centre).
The counter staff at the Post Office are unsure what to do... Are they supposed to check the sales order and scan it and then ask me to seal up the bag?
Or does the delivery driver (when he/she turns up at the post office at the end of the day) have to look in the bag, find the piece of paper and scan it and then seal up the bag? (oh, such good fun, I can imagine!!), or do they drag the mail sacks to the post van not knowing which bag is which and end up with all my post scattered on the pavement?
Any ideas anyone?
Of course I have emailed Royal Mail customers services, but they haven't a clue!

I would expect the collection driver requires them to be open to check the PPI documentation
I know the collection drivers recently had "training" on changes to PPI collections

Maybe this won't be an issue in a few years when links between Royal Mail and Post Offices have been severed and PPI must be taken to Mail Centres or Delivery Offices.

Presumably the delivery driver then seals up the bag? What a lot of time and hassle?
Or are they just then chucked loose into the mail van? (I always foresee problems in this instance). Why change a process that worked well!

As a PPI customer you will have received notice multiple times that yellow posting pouches are being withdrawn and advising you what to do instead.
Ask the Business Centre if still unsure.

worked well for those not paying what they were due, it seems.

what delivery offices?
I always find it ironic that RM/postal staff are often maligned as dinosaurs that are resistant to change.
Then theres a massive uproar when anything changes!

Not the case.adb2aber wrote:As a PPI customer you will have received notice multiple times that yellow posting pouches are being withdrawn and advising you what to do instead.
Ask the Business Centre if still unsure.
When I contacted the Business Centre a few weeks ago to ask about the changes, they informed me "nothing new to do, do exactly the same as you've been doing" (so much they knew!)
And the online business account response was:
" I can’t answer your question as the processes have been changed for reasons that are undisclosed to us therefore all we have been notified of is that the bags remain unsealed"

I would have assumed that was obvious, since he saidcustard wrote:sorry, are you saying that is not the correct procedure?somerset wrote:YEAH RIGHT ! As if we had time to do that? well not obvious,or i wouldn't have asked.would I?
Stating he/she is going to red cross the bags doesn't verify which is the correct procedure, which was the original question

AFAIK collection drivers are now meant to check that the paperwork matches the contents and if it doesn't then they're meant to leave the stuff

Re: PPI drop-off at Post Office - sacks have to be left open
so we are at the same point as most other RM work areas
do the job properly. if you are expected to check every posting docket ,then do so
if you cant complete the collection then so be it
they will need to redesign the collections to allow for the (IMO) massive change in time taken for collections

Re: PPI drop-off at Post Office - sacks have to be left open
I wonder who is going to be responsible for theft of my goods! My post office has to leave the sacks in a public area because they simply don't have enough room which is bad enough when the sacks are closed. So I used to hand my sacks directly to the delivery driver when he called at the post office which was easier for him and at least my post was secure. Now they are going to be open for anyone to dip their hands in!
I am a small one person business and I only spend £10K per annum max so can't have a free collection, I cannot afford £1K to pay for a collection.
It makes me feel like just packing it all in
