Hi, I sent the item to buyer on ebay on last Monday 25/06/12 with First Class recorded delivery.
I live in Swindon and the parcel was sent to London E14 9WW. Yesterday the buyer emailed me that
He hasn't received the parcel. I tracked the parcel on RM site and it said
"item AUxxxxxxxxxGB was posted at 14 - 18 Rainer P SN3 4YA on 25/06/12 and is being progressed through our network for delivery"
I wonder if this is normal or there is a delay in London? How do I know if the buyer telling me the truth as sometimes recorded parcel
arrived with no signing requirement from postman and it never be updated on the site. Should I contact his local post office?
I would appreciate any advice, thank you.

That would indicate that the parcel is still in the postal system, as when they get to the customer and are scanned again. If they are successfully delivered then you will see something along the lines of "Item xxx was successfully delivered on x date. Thankyou for using Royal Mail" and you can then also see who signed for it. If the person wasn't in then is will say something like "Delivery of item xxx was attempted on x date but delivery was not possible". Postie would then leave a P739 and the item should then be scanned when it gets back to the Post Office. When checked with the on-line tracker it should then say "Item xxx was unable to be delivered and is at xx Post Office awaiting collection"

Remember that Royal mail do not consider an item to be 'lost' until about 3 weeks have passed !

What would you call reasonable? At the end of the day if they paid out compensation straight away they would be paying out compensation for 'lost items' that eventually turn up, albeit late. The VAST majority of mail goes through fine although there can occasionally be delays which is not always down to RM.Nige97 wrote:Remember that Royal mail do not consider an item to be 'lost' until about 3 weeks have passed !
I have come across letters like
Joe Smith
Mane Road
DN
A cover (or reserve) would have to wait until the regular got back off holiday to see if they recognise the addressees. This could be upto 2 weeks. Or he could just 'kill off' the letter there and then. Which would you prefer.
