It was acceptable then it was banned then it was acceptable again....just ask Susan.
The latest Royal Mail Delivery Equipment Security Procedure states...
Other than a working bundle (not SD items) which can be carried in the front passenger footwell. This bundle must be taken with the driver each time he/she has to leave the vehicle.

But it is only the working bundle.
Nothing can be left in the front of the van if you aren't...in the van.

Fish that's the security rules you are quoting, the ssow for omvs changed 18 months ago and states clearly nothing in front of van due to risk of injury when it flies about in an accident, it does contradict the security procedure though, will post the relevant info when I can find it online,

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Is it surprising people fall foul or these rules, when they seem to change on a daily basis.

The plot thickens.

I asked justsayit, and they have only just got back to me.Email I got was received at 20:06,someone's working late.

Anyway...

I did point out the difference between the SSOW for OMV's and the Royal Mail Delivery Equipment Security Procedure doc...
Thank you for your email, I am sorry for the delay.
I have made some enquiries and I’m afraid that I cannot send you the internal document to an external address.
However, I have enclosed a link which can be accessed through the Royal Mail intranet. This can be accessed from a Royal Mail computer or laptop and will provide you with the information you are seeking. I hope you will understand why I cannot share this externally.
The link, without the http:// so you can see it properly...
iplatform.intranet.point/rmg/rm/operations/Across+the+Pipeline/Security/RM+Delivery+Equipment+Security+Procedure.htm

The link is for Royal Mail Delivery Equipment Security Procedure which is what Fishy has quoted from, and i'm guessing that Fishy and us have the up to date one so...

Since most van drivers will have a good few years service you can take it for granted that any security patrols which result in the dismissal of the driver without having to pay any redundancy etc. will be seen as a good day's work. Even if you are only leaving the van for a short time, all doors should be locked and no mail should be visible through any windows which would include footwells, I imagine. Remember that Royal Mail security operatives go through many years of high intensity training and consequently have razor-sharp reflexes and are trained to kill with one flick of.....oh, wait a minute - maybe I'm getting them confused with Jason Bourne.....
