Special Delivery...wrong postcode

Post by stargrrluk »

Hi there

Am hoping someone can shed some light on this.

I am having a document delivered through Special Delivery, but the sender has put the wrong post code on (B13 when it should be B78)

I understand that this will go to a different sorting office (one in Moseley as opposed to Tamworth)

Do you think that there is any chance that they would try and deliver it to the correct address?

The reason that I ask is the sender has only put their return postcode on it...

Any help gratefully received.

Depends - with so many DOs in the Birmingham area the chances are fairly slim but its not impossible.

Strictly speaking they should send it back to the sender, but if someone in the B78 office knows that the street is in B13 then you may get it tomorrow. However that depends on the street name, if its something common the chances are slim, if its unusual then it has a better chance.

Thank you....am hoping someone "catches" it along its route...

The address on it is a workplace on a large industrial estate so I am hoping that this might work in my favour...

Eeeek, it's going to be a long night!

But presumably 'Tamworth' as well as 'B78' has been entered in the address so there's a chance it won't be delayed. :Very Happy Let us know.
I've known confusion between Tamworth Staffs and Tadworth Surrey. not to mention between Tadworth KT20 and Folkestone CT20

The postcode on the letter says says "B13" which is Moseley (and is incorrect)

Address is for Tamworth (B78)...RM have said that it will be returned to sender (but they only put their postcode on... :() and then said it will end up in Ireland.

Confused...and in a bit of a panic!

Even if it goes to mosley ...
it will have to be allocated to a postmans round in b13... who would then have to sign for before he took it out.
theres a 95% chance he would throw it back to the parcel office at that point !
saying "this isn't on my round"
its a very unlikely case that theres a good road, surname & number match for your mail in that b13 code.

only if your pkt was going to "field avenue" or "church lane" etc would i be worried about it being delivered.

i cant be confident that it wont get sent back to Ireland.

you could try find telephone of "mosley" do on the net if exists and catch them between 8 and 9 before the
deliveries go out?
nowhere near my area sorry

Chunk, does this happen with Special Delivery?

Spoke to 2 customer service agents at RM, 1 said it will get to Tamworth, don't worry...the other said it will be returned to sender.

I am very anxious and twitchy at all this and keep on refreshing the tracking page on RM!!!

It really depends on the rest of the address (as has been said before) if only the postcode is wrong then it should be fine and the return address sounds fine, postcode and number is all we need to deliver so unless the locker room is having an off day it would be returned to the sender without having to go to Belfast.

Agreed. That's why I said "But presumably 'Tamworth' as well as 'B78' has been entered in the address so there's a chance it won't be delayed" :Very Happy

Hi all

Thank you for the advice and support, delivery has been delivered!

Very grateful to Royal Mail staff, not so hyped with the Customer Service people on the telephone due to conflicting information (although I realise that this situation was not caused by their mistake!)

In future will ensure that postcodes are verified!

Phew!

Big thanks to delivery staff...Have a brilliant day!

I recently had a special on one of my runs which was posted from London and all the address said was:

"Mrs [the womans name],
Carlton,
Glasgow"

No postcode, no street, no number, nowt, AND the actual area is Calton not Carlton (there is no Carlton in Glasgow by the way and the Calton often gets miss spelt on mail as Carlton). Good job there is only one woman of that name in the place, and she's had shoddilly addressed stuff before. When I chapped her door and told her she said "Let me see whit address he's put... The stupit basturt av TELT him tae pit the full address".

TBH the PO who accepted it are in the wrong there, they're supposed to make sure the address is there (if not actually correct  ).
