Intl. Failed delivery

Post by reedy-ni »

Hi all,

This is actually the first situation (problem?) that I have had with Royal Mail - although it's not really their fault, more the fault of the other nations postal service.

I'm not sure where I stand on this, I want to find out some information first before I ring up Royal Mail. I recently sent a smallish parcel via Airsure to Spain, once in Spain, the Spanish Postal service failed to deliver the parcel twice and now it's on it's way to be returned to me. Recipients address is correct, as he has had this problem numerous times when people don't use the address he provides. So either their postal system is not like ours where it is held at a local depot for collection and that after two attempts of the customer not being in during delivery, it was pinged back to me.

Recipient is now trying to seek the cost of postage of the parcel with his local Spanish post system, and has asked me to do the same. Now, I believe RM have delivered their service, and that the Spanish postal system has failed - so not much I can do. In saying that, the service was initiated with RM, can you claim on failed deliveries? Is it worth my time? Can I make a claim?

Any info much appreciated!

Sorry under the AirSure T&Cs you can only claim loss or damage so if its being returned to you then according to http://www.royalmail.com/delivery/deliv ... #102100849" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; no claim can be made

sorry

Thanks TrueBlueTerrier, that's what I thought. I was just looking for some sort of conformation before I explain this to the recipient. I had already read that, and that it also stated that RM do no take responsibility for third party postal operators.

Thanks again for the quick response.

http://www.royalmail.com/trackdetails" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Try the tracking number there, it may give you a reason as to why the delivery failed.

Is it an ebay type thing where the person's postal address in ebay is different from their postal address in paypal?

Thanks, never saw that one before. Says ''UNDELIVEREDADDRESSEE CANNOT BE LOCATED''.

Not through Ebay, but just a personal sale through Paypal. Address is the same in Paypal as the one he gave me. I took the address he gave me and I used Google Maps to get specifics, but he told me I had to use his one as he has had problems receiving if others where used.

May be linked to your problem, is the address it's supposed to goto a PO Box address or an 'apartado' address?

That was an interesting read. I'm not sure to be honest, I will have to ask the guy and find out about that. From what I have saw through Google Maps, it seems to be apartments in the center of Madrid though, but the address has no mention of a PO box address.

It was being handled through Correos delivery network, which I assume has nothing to do with GLS so I'm out of luck there?
[EDIT] Just tried the tracking number on the GLS website, and no tracking information was found, so that rules that out. [/EDIT]

At the moment, since the 25th the parcel has being in limbo in Spain somewhere, showing as 'In transit'. Royal Mail couldn't hazard a guess as to how long it would take the Spanish Postal service to return the parcel.

Evening,

Just to keep this topic alive. To date, my returning parcel is still in ''transit'' since the 25th of April. Correos told the buyer that it will take 15 days maximum to reach the UK - which is tomorrow, and which I doubt unless divine intervention happens overnight. I have also contacted them via email a week ago with no response.

This Friday will mark the 20th working day since original postage. I'm I right in saying that on/after Friday if nothing has turned up or still no sign of it on the tracking, as it was sent and insured via Airsure I am able to set the ball rolling to claim for lost parcel? Or is it now pretty much the end of the line, hope it appears sometime back within the mailing system and take the hit (Fund wise) and chalk it up to experience? ;)

Again, this is my first International postage, and my first time I have had mail go 'lost' for a period of time without trace so little apprehensive. Thankfully the buyer is very reasonable so far and has tried to help. I would rather have the parcel back than trying to claim.
