The people you are alluding to easterbunny know that the use of emotive phrases like 'pushing their way up the senority list' is guaranteed to stir up resentment against people on ring-fenced duties. The cretins that stir up that kind of trouble show their complete lack of compassion for those who may be less fortunate than themselves :arrrghhh

If it were possible for a chap I knew to have swapped his 'cushy' duty and multiple sclerosis, for my good health and one of the longest walks in my old DO, I'm sure he would have done it without a second's hesitation. Thing is, one of the moaning gits that talked about this chap's 'preferential treatment' is still, years later, the biggest moaner in the office, whilst the guy with MS is now medically retired and confined to a wheelchair :sad:
Cracking post mate!
Only last week I overheard two posties discussing me and the other 3 cripples :roll: in our office with this bit of shite.
"Yeah that General chappy has got an indoor duty and so has so and so and theres f**k all wrong with them :roll: "
"To be fair to the General he has had a few fits and operations!"
"Well there you go then...IT SEEMS THE MORE ILL YOU ARE THE BETTER YOU ARE TREATED" :left:
Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09
Royal Mail is an Equal Opportunities Employer..It discriminates against everybody.

It has been known for Managers to go winding other staff up when a colleague is covered under the DDA ..

i will raise the point again

why are staff talking about a collegues disability

i would be having a severe word with the manager to stamp this talk out

equalities act 2010

a person who is covered under the dda will not be subject to ridicule or any less favourable treatment than an able body person

managers have a legal duty to stop this and would be subject to bullying and harrassment for contravening the persons protected charateristics

I think to be fair keith that would probably make the situation worse.
What is needed is openness and education,not about the members particular situation but about the whole process of reasonable adjustment,the role of ATOS,employee's rights and employer's obligations.
Reps and managers should be educating members that the whole process is not done on a nod and a wink and to be honest managers should try to move away from the easy option of just pointing anyone who needs reasonable adjustments at an indoor duty and move towards creating properly adjusted duties that better reflect each individuals needs.
Sometimes an indoor duty is the last thing a member with a disability needs.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

i totally agree as it depends on what disability the collegue has under the dda and what adjusmants need to be made

but why should that person be subject to back chat and ridicule just because of their disability

i thought that went out with the spastic termanology and thats why they changed there name to scope

words can hurt people as much as physical violance and should never be tollorated in this day and age especially to a person who may not be in a posistion to repudiate such accusations

They sign for a duty when its that individuals turn. The disability part of their duty gets "designed" for their DDA. You cannot ring fence duties as you will have two separate seniority groups. The employer responsibilities are their responsibilities!

That`s not right,the adjusted duty is created prior to any re-sign and allocated to the DDA postie,that duty is then ringfenced in the re-sign and any future re-signs.

In reference to Keithposty...I'm a 22 year man and proud... not happy with everything to do with the company but fortunately for me I have qualifications to fall back on if need be... and if i was like so many people on here who seem so unhappy i would find alternative employment.....in my opinion Royal Mail would be alot better place to work without the type of individuals representing our company on here...

This has to be a wind up...

In case it's not ,

Many colleagues on here have given more service to the RM than you have been born sonny . So a little more respect from your good self is in order .

We have witnessed the brutal destruction of this great service over the last decade due to dreadful mismanagement from the boardroom and Government .

However, while the faceless people in the boardroom get massive payoffs, us workers are left to carry the can through their awful decision making while the former go and ruin another business .

The Union together with our forefathers have fought for decades in this service defending our rights and terms and conditions . Over recent years , they have been systematically destroyed by both right wing newspapers and Management .

So while most of my colleagues intend ( God willing ) to stay around the Company for many years to come , you seem to be here for a flitting visit .

You ought to apply for Management - Your attitude and total lack of respect for your colleagues is just what their looking for .....

Exactly the same - have you not seen the adverts on TV. Its not a Royal Mail only policy - its the law of the land enacted by an act of parliament.

Well I hope they keep posting. There is a fair amount on here that I disagree with, and a fair amount that I endorse, but I prefer to see different opinions otherwise it gets a bit Daily Mailish. I have made mistakes and assumptions in my posts and I enjoy it when people pick holes in my position. That's the definition of debate, but some make it personal, and some take it personally, however I would much rather have a robust adult debate with someone who has views opposite to mine, then have someone with similar views posting childish taunts and using abuse to make a point. When they do it weakens their position and mine.

so true blue....if you're a builder and you injure yourself so you can't do the job do they find you a job in the office?
what if they haven't got one?
Easterbunny....in reply to you....I am 49 years old with 22 years in with Royal Mail so therefore that gives me as much right as any to have an opinion.
Unfortunately on here I seem to be in minority....I love my job....it's nowhere near as easy as it used to be but i still love it

Yes if they can make reasonable adjustments they should continue to employ you, this doesn't mean they have to work in the office but if its a reasonable adjustment and they are willing why not.

Transferring the person to an existing vacancy

If, after considering reasonable adjustments, you are still not be able to carry out the main aspects of a particular role, an alternative could be to look at moving jobs within the organisation. This is more likely to be ‘reasonable’ within a large company with different types of roles. A recent legal case (Archibald) established that it may sometimes be reasonable to consider moving someone to a more senior position.
http://www.hse.gov.uk/disability/law.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Reasonable adjustments may include:

adjustments to the workplace to improve access or layout;
giving some of the disabled person’s duties to another person, eg employing a temp;
transferring the disabled person to fill a vacancy;
changing the working hours, eg flexi-time, job-share, starting later or finishing earlier;
time off, eg for treatment, assessment, rehabilitation;
training for disabled workers and their colleagues;
getting new or adapting existing equipment, eg chairs, desks, computers, vehicles;
modifying instructions or procedures, eg by providing written material in bigger text or in Braille;
improving communication, eg providing a reader or interpreter, having visual as well as audible alarms;
providing alternative work (this should usually be a last resort)

Then its not a reasonable adjustment.
