Can't find an answer to this anywhere, this seems a good a place as any to ask.

Ive got plenty of first class stamps from December ('bonus' :dance ) as many of you will have. I've got a few psotcards to send abroad. If I put two first class stamps on (value: 92 pence, so well over the international postcard stamp (78p)) will that be OK, or can you not do that with UK first class stamps?

Not entirely sure how international postage works... any ideas?

Shouldn't be a problem, except I thought it was 68p Europe and 76p rest of world. .

Well I've sent them now! I just wasn't sure if they were accepted internationally or just for domestic. In fact I don't even know how it works. Does RM pay the destination company for final delivery? Who pays for the transit between countries?

All stamps of all countries are accepted in all countries as long as the face value is enough to cover the price of the service used.

Most countries have an understanding under the Universal Postal Union of which only the red countries/territories are NON-MEMBERS

I thought I'd re-use this thread rather than start a new one as I've more or less got the same enquiry, albeit slightly different.

Recently I sent a letter to Europe and, like the original poster, I had a lot of first-class stamps at hand, so I decided to use a few of them rather than head to the post office. Now, unlike kawoxux, I wasn't posting a postcard, but I am more than certain that the letter wouldn't have been over 100g. All together, the postage I placed on the envelope would have come up to nearly £2, so surely enough to post a letter via Airmail. Do you think it'll prove an issue that I used first-class stamps as opposed to the exact Airmail payment purely because I am sending a letter as opposed to a postcard? I've never actually used first-class stamps for international postage before, so I have no idea as to how reliable it is to use them...

By nearly £2 you probably mean £1.84 ( 4 x 1st class ) which covers you up to 100g ( £2.01 is up to £1.20 ).
Affixing an Airmail sticker would have been a good idea though. £1.89 is the Surface Mail rate up to 200g for both Europe and ROW.

I sent it in a 'Airmail/Par Avion' envelope (has a specific boarder around it with the Airmail sticker already printed upon it), so there's enough indication on it that it's intended to be airmail. Given that it's only a single sheet of paper, it' definitely under 100grams.

I've used 2x 1st Class stamps before for sending International postcards, and they got there fine.
