When i started with RM all overtime was paid at double time after 12 hours.
There were no households.
If you had a big delivery you had at most two pouches!
Sick pay was paid to everyone, including new entrants!
My pension was SECURE!
I didn't get rung up at home to check on my 'welfare' regarding sickness!
Royal mail's aim is not only to get its way for this 'round' but to complete a knockout against the cwu. Then it really can begin its real agenda and who knows what that is?
Mail centres competing against each other?
Franchise deliveries with the franchise holder responsible for sick and leave coverage?
It could even get really riddiculous:
Postman paid for delivery by pouch weight!

stephen, wake up man. This is 2007.
Businesses have been ripped apart from Joker staff making ''full use'' of sick leave. If it were your business wouldn't you want to make sure sick meant sick. But then again we all scream that the business doesn't care, surely a call to check you are in ( not dogging, and off on holiday for a week) and are well is well within order.
SECURE, please define secure in this modern day? doesn't exist unless you MAKE it secure, striking and forcing business away does nothing to secure anything other than a harder bump at the bottom.
Competition is a good thing, keeps you healthy.

Anyway, keep on the soap box your colleagues need you. Maybe you could also nip by and help with mortgage/car payments, stuff for the kids, extra bite to eat etc

L THOMMO, why lock this thread because someone says something you disagree with, we live in a democracy and we are all entitled to our views. If you want to make us do what you want and deny us a voice you're no better than Leighton and Crozier.

The problem with armani is the suits he wears - probably with Prada shoes.

It would be best to ignore him, he is obviously young and misguided, his bent is to keep his Manager sweet. Hopefully he will never need to be on the sick. It's extremely unlikely he will be with us long he's such a smart arse he's bound to cockup.

A colleague had a hernia operation and came out of hospital 10 days ago. A line manager asked if he could pop in for a chat. He was asked if he would return immediately on light duties he refused citing the sick note he had which lasted a month. The manager told him he was writing it up that he had REFUSED to return to work. Oh yes this is the place to be in 2007.

Your colleague with the hernia needs to get his union rep straight in on that, he should also find out any possible repercussions and if needed he should seek legal advice. Why is it so many DOM's think they know better than the doctor?

WE HAVE RIGHTS PEOPLE, LEARN THE RULES AND USE THEM PROPERLY, VICTIMISATION AND BULLYING, THREATS AND HARASSMENT ARE ALL WRONG AND CAN BE ACTIONED ON. WE HAVE TO STAND UP FOR OURSELVES AND ALSO STAND TOGETHER.

Good advice! This lad has a lot of service in and knows the score and he made short shrift of the managers suggestion with one of his own!

But it is easy to see how people could be bullied into going back to work too soon.

My recommendation to all is: stay out until you are completely fit, any harassment by managers then straight on the phone to your rep, that's what we pay them for. :cuppa
