Compensation paid by phone

Evening all

So I am having a bit of bad luck recently. Another delayed Special, posted 09.01.2011, only delivered today as per the below:

11/01/12 12:41 DELIVERED11/01/12 WINTON PDO
11/01/12 07:05 ON DELIVERY WINTON PDO
11/01/12 06:26 RECEIVED AT PDOWINTON PDO WINTON PDO
11/01/12 03:44 DESPATCHABLE TOWINTON PDO DORSET MAIL CENTRE
11/01/12 00:42 RECEIVED ATDORSET MAIL CENTRE DORSET MAIL CENTRE

09/01/12 21:03 COLLECTED MANCHESTER MAIL CENTRE
09/01/12 12:46 ACCEPTED AT POL

Obviously didn't quite make it down to Dorset in time :P

However, when I called Royal Mail I was able to have the compensation (i.e. postage refund) arranged over the phone. Just gave some basic details (name, address) and amount of postage paid (verbally) and they said a cheque would be issued shortly. No P58 required.

Quite fantastic and much more customer-friendly. Does anyone know if this is a new thing/recent development? Very positive on the part of RM and a thumbs up :Applause (though my friend getting the parcel yesterday would have been better still :P)

Strangely I had a late special today too, posted on the 9th and delivered today, I told the person to make sure the postage was reclaimed.

We had about 8 or 9 specials to claim for after xmas, so just did a bulk claim. However, if we just had one that would be so much easier I imagine, as the P58 claims forms can be a nuisance.

Thanks for sharing, I'm sure it'll come in use in the near future.

Snitch  :chuckle

As for the OP, I don't think they can really say much about it to be honest as the tracking info speaks for itself, although I'm surprised they didn't ask for a P58 so they could have an audit trail for the claim. But :nana for getting the money back!
