There's a question Pat....
Say there was an overtime ban/wtr in an office...
And the DOM being a sneaky fecker offered the part-timers a "temporary" full-time contract with a nudge, nudge promise that it may be made permanent  ...
Would this be seen as breaking the WTR?...could any part-timer really afford to refuse?
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

With our (CWU) track record on IA then it must be
Work to Rule, but getting people to stick to it is a
very hard thing to do,no doubt the RM bullying
machine would go into warp drive over it.This is
where our REP's have to act and keep telling our
colleagues to "DO THE JOB PROPERLY" no cutting
corners just so they can finnish a few minutes
early,do exactly what you are paid to do no more
no less. As Wise Eric Morecambe used to say
"They can't touch you for it"
But it has to be done correctly and collectively for
it to work.

whatever action we take (apart from carry on and do nothing) i think its important to make clear to the public that any disruption to their service isnt (just) about money... make it very clear why what we are doing is impacting on their service.

last thing we need -no matter if you deliver, collect or sort mail- is to have the public fighting against us and being on the side of RM

To be honest now, part timers in my office are still getting stitched up. The revised new duties have been put up and in almost every scenario they have even worse attendance patterns than now. How can they be expected to be supportive when their full time colleagues are more than willing to do them over?

People im afraid, now, have lost the will in a lot of ways because of the RM bully machine.
New entrants don't know any different and they are many in number now so we are becoming weaker.
If we could get everyone to do the job properly, no cars, come in on time etc etc, great, we would cripple a lot of offices which
run on good will and naivety.
It is also hard to keep it up with bullying threats from DOM'S and lino's, some can take this pressure but most people are afraid
of confrontation even though they are doing what is written down in RM'S handbook of workplace practise.
I do the job properly but when we try to get others to do it, it's the same old faces doing it that are then cast as the old school moaners!
I would love to see the whole of my office doing it because it would show those managers who think you have all the time in the world
what it's really like!
Strike's im afraid obviously haven't worked it's time to try something else. :cuppa

Do the job properly!!!!!!!!!!
Always be one step ahead, play their game but be wiser. Revenge is sweet.

The problem with work to rule is that we now have manpower in most mail centres so if we had a work to rule ballot,
the RM would just hire more manpower people so would defeat the purpose of the ballot.

Personally work to rule by far the best option..... It costs the business a fortune, undelivered mail would build and build, pressure would come to bear from government to sort things out, but members are still able to pay their bills and keep their heads above water. I feel lucky as could afford to go out on an all out strike and would without doubt support it but many younger members would find it very difficult. Whatever action is taken it must be effective and a lot of members simply could not afford an all out strike nowadays and it would quickly frazel out with RM coming out winners then we could get ready!!!!!!!.......
Work to rule does not just mean no overtime. We all talk but I feel quite sure not one of us however strongly we feel do the job 100% to the book, that is when work to rule will cripple RM if we do everything 100% inline with their rules i.e every bag be to the correct weight (drop bags, pouches etc), every pouch put out for vans, make up as many pouches as you can for vans to convey to you in line with their rules, no unnofficial bag drops, if not enough drops, sit and wait for them to bring it out to you, no coming in early, no private cars on delivery, no looking at the mail whilst walking etc, etc, etc. The none use of private cars alone would cripple our office, it would just grind to a stop......
Work to rule would take discipline and commitment but if even 90%were on board, it would have the most effect and be the most frustrating for management to deal with in my opinion.
One day strikes...... Absolute joke, only achieves savings for RM, they can make us look the bad guys in the eye of the public and limit the cost of the strike financially when posties take 2 days mail on return next day for perhaps 1 day +1&1/2 overtime  . It's a damn sight harder to turn public support against the postie for following RM's rules.......

I wouldn't worry about either option as its quite clear the invisible layer of management at the broadway are determined not to make these options available...in general the CWU and the TUC don't have the courage of their convictions and when you get to the point where principles are disregarded because of the fear of losing any dispute then declining terms and conditions are inevitable... :evil/mad
