I think you're right.
I'm not going to leave the union but for the first time ever i think...i'm looking at the money and wondering if i can really afford it or what else i'll have to give up to afford it.
Not good.

Its not like we're going forward any more, more like helping RM to manage decline.

Couldn't they have removed a post or two from the top to cover increase in costs?
Why could they not make savings somewhere, just like everyone is having to do - they might think any increase is small but it all adds up and with every f****r taking significantly more from my paltry earnings I'm struggling!

And isn't it always the same; the companies or unions always bring inflation figures in to play when it suits them but when it comes to our wages we never get anything like that amount :dcfo

Costs are rising for the union just like us at RPI(over 5%) per year.
If membership sub increases are kept significantly below that obviously something will have to give.
Switching hats again i would say that the projected savings we were supposed to see going forward should have mitigated at least some of that increase....they don't seem to have.
They seem to have taken the easy option again and just hiked the subs.

Have real sustainable savings been made at HQ?
We'll need to wait for the accounts to come out to really see that.
So my shopping bill electric bill council tax and now union fees all rise by 5%, but my wages only1%. This union is taking the pi** now , their costs rise we have to cover it , ours rise and its hard luck . seriously considering my position now , what am i getting for my money???

One thing that does irk me with these rises is that the extra subs are just taken straight from our wages without the union having the common decency to write to us all first and let us know. In my book that's bad manners and it wasn't the way I was brought up.

TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Has anyone ever put a motion forward at conference that the subs should only go up by the same as the pay rise that the CWU agreed that year, and that it should only be increased at the same time as the pay rise. Also if they included that there would be no clawback of subs for retrospective awards.
I think that their remuneration should rise in line with the pay rise awarded to members but the subs have to reflect the cost of running the union - not one and the same thing.

RIP i do agree with u on this one they should right to all members informing them of the increase instead of taking us for granted and that we will all except because reading all these messages not everybody is happy bunnies which is a shame

As per usual the union talk of savings within HQ and the amalgamation that should have saved money on the costs but the reality is they are stilll riding the gravy train for all it's worth.

Lets take two scenarios here:

Scenario 1: Royal Mail cannot pay colleague share money, they are in dire financial straits because there has been not enough savings, pay rises are risible and we are expected to swallow it and work for less.

Scenario 2: CWU HQ have made no savings, continually increase subs year on year and usually at a rate above the current pay rise for the year and guess who is expected to swallow it and pay more.

One and the same.

It's true that the actual increase is only pennies per member but I think the principle should be that we are getting less pay than last year with an increase this year of just 3.5% with RM failing to pay due monies for revisions and the union should seriously consider cutting back on expenditure.

Next edition of the voice will have the rises in.

Just to inform you-subs are going up in Jan.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

To be fair, piss taking aside, this LTB has been sent to 'The Branch Secretary'.
Is it not his job to then cascade the info down to the branches reps?

The cost to send a mail shot out to all members would be massive.

To be fair again, lots of LTB''s sent out don't get sent on to reps.

Well to be uber fair, it's not something we weren't expecting really, judging from all the time I've been a member. Well I've never known the subs to go down. :cuppa
