Christmas mail delays (already?)

Post by shipmaster122 »

As a company, we heard of the "xmas rush", but being our first year in the online ecommerce business, we never expected it to get so busy!
Our daily mailing volumes have shot up over the past week and we are struggling to get items out on time caused by us running out of stock so quickly and it taking so long for new stocks to arrive!
We are also experiencing delays already on outgoing mail (an additional 2-3 days to Europe on average).

I have heard that the mail network gets busiest around the 6th December, but would anybody be able to give us any advice on when the best time is to post packages to avoid delays? Are any of you RM guys already seeing increased volumes?

It's funny because I sent a 1st class packet one year on the 23rd Dec and it arrived on the 24th! It seems to be the start of December that suffers the most delays.

It's been like this for the past couple of years, pressure period starts about now but only for MCs, for us on delivery ours doesn't start for a couple of weeks.

It does seem to me over the last 8 years that the first 2 weeks in December are the busiest, although this year its been the busiest last 2 weeks of November I have seen for packets. The last 10 days before Christmas are usually busy in deliveries as well, but that's mainly down to re deliveries or recovering from any bad weather.

My advice would be to send it as soon as possible, but advise customers that there may be a delay due to volumes/time of the year.

It could well be people are sending stuff and ordering stuff earlier this year in case we get snow like we got last year.
