Firstly what the feck is an RFID scanner, secondly I can assure you we do not have them and thirdly half of us don't have ID badges either.I suppose thats what you get for working out in the sticks. On the plus side I would rather be out here than in a big office in a town,we don't get half as much mither.
An scanner is placed above every entrance into your building, they are there to track test letters going in and out of the office. Now it might be just my office but I don't think so.

There is only 1 divide in RM and thats between the managers and workers. Everything else is crap designed by managers to deflect anger from them, and to cause distrust and friction between colleagues.

I don't give a hoot whether the woman or man on the next frame to me is Full Time, Part Time, Driver, Bag Carrier, Locker staff, book room, callers office or even DOM support as long as they work hard and support their colleagues - everything else is chaff. The measure of a person is not based on the contract they have, or the hours they work or what job they do , but their own character and values.

Yes but that is certainally not every full timers views :mad :mad :mad :mad ...... There may be one or two idle F/T workers but the majority of us are hard working, concencious, loyal employees.....

Seniority in my opinion should still be embraced as it is a small reward to LOYAL employees PART and FULL time for the service, comitment and hard work they have done, but sadly it is no longer recognised as it should be in my opinion......

Your post is most unhelpfull and will only serve to create divisions between F/T and P/T staff at a time we should all be sticking together and supporting each other, especially us full timers as P/T staff do often get a raw deal from RM........

the post to me is helpful as we keep coming back to divisions in the workforce especially f/t and p/t ,until it is acknowledged and healed we are going to get nothing fixed . the fact is theres more than one section of royal mail turning a blind eye :Applause

There really should be an up-dated system for Grading Posties. With Different Pay Scales. Something that not only looks at Length of Service but also incorporates such things as Attendance...Discipline...Flexibility...Knowledge of Duties within the Office...Additional Skills such as H & S/First Aid/Driving. :hmmmm

I'm sure there's some sort of Computer tool that can work this out. Just because someone's served 20 years (and managed to survive undetected) is not good enough......IF they're a Lazy....Uncooperative...Inflexible....Racist...Bullying...Workshy...Asshole! :no no If you want to put in Minimum Effort and Argue the Toss at ever Minor Problem, then Fair Enough! But if you are the working like a Demon.. Covering Countless Duties and Stepping in at minimum notice.... To basically get the job done then why shouldn't you be rewarded?

Much better surely to be employing a better quality of Postie? Only problem is whose going to be grading them? Incompetent management? Awaiting Incoming! :nervous

The problem with that theory is that we don't all have the same circumstances outside of work.
Why should a single parent who can't work like a demon.. cover countless duties and step in at minimum notice because of childcare commitments be penalised when inside their contracted hours they may be a top class employee?

I also know plenty of members who "work" 60+ hours a week who aren't worth a...... :cuppa

i have to agree with fishtank some of the demons i work with are big at cutting corners and all the other negatives we dont want connected to the job , its not quantity its quality that counts and its what we can do for the customer not ourselves , teamwork needs sorting in royal mail from top to bottom theres not enough of it

That's obviously a Big problem FT and I hear what you're saying. I'm not suggesting that Anyone should be penalised for coming into work and doing the job that they've been employed to do...and certainly not discriminating against those that can only work within those parameters.

What I am suggesting is the current "One Size Fits All" doesn't seem applicable either. :hmmmm As you suggest some colleagues who "Work" 60+ Hours a week are taking the mick, and merely "Clock Watching" to get the extra wages, whilst actually providing very little extra value for the Business. On the other hand a PTer may come in and work their Bits of for only 6 hours, and actually provide more value for the Business. But who is thought the better of?

The point I was trying to make is that just because someone's served many years, often on the same duty, often with no knowledge of any other Duties within the Office (and therefore incapable of doing IPS) and totally unwilling to be even the slightest bit flexible, it doesn't make them a "Good Asset" (although they are fulfilling their contract) However from a "Business" point of view.......That Postie is not as Effective as perhaps a less "Senior" postie who is the opposite.

I believe the "Benefit" to the Business should be reflected in their wages! :hmmmm

Exactly FT it'd take a greater mind than mine to work out a feasible system. However I'm sure there's someone out there in the HR world that's capable. The BIG problem that I can see is Who is going to OK these different Pay Bands? RM Low Level Management is just not up to the job.( I'm not saying Middle or Higher Management is any better)! You pay peanuts..you get Monkeys...Let's face it we're not going to get the winner of The Apprentice applying for the job of DOM are we? :left:

I could foresee a situation where the "Favouritism" of todays delivery office was replaced by the "Pay Scale Rises for me mates" Favouritism of tomorrow! :arrrghhh However we can all live in hope. But don't hold your breath! :angel

I suppose it's just another chapter in the destruction of a once great institution. When everone used to come in and sort until it was done and then prep their own rounds etc. there didn't seem to be as much animosity within the office as there is now! :hmmmm I suppose it just boils down to everyone wanting/needing to earn a decent wage for their days work...and in a lot of cases being prevented from doing so by the Greedy and favoured? :arrrghhh

Never used to begrudge an "Old Timer" from getting paid some arcane allowance, but nowadays there's a lot of people taking the piss!
