Don't want to wade in to the sexism debate...way to controversial for me but as far as part-timers are concerned you have to understand that the vast majority of part-timers are also relatively new to the business.
Newbies have always been treated badly in this job...even more so now that many of them are on fixed term contracts.
It's not always as simple as a part-time/full-time issue is all i'm saying.
I will now back away nervously from this thread... :nervous :nervous

LOL. Sorry bandit, but it just amused me.
I did a double-take when I first read it. Initially I thought that it had been posted by a bloke.
Hence the Angry of Tunbridge Wells character. :chuckle

Don’t really get this part-time/full-time divide though. Certainly doesn’t happen in our office. Everyone bumps along.
We’re all in it together, right in it!

That’s what I love about RM, there’s no prejudice, they’ll get anyone.

I have been full time and part time and there isn't any difference in our office either. Most of us realise that being part time is not a matter of choice but a fact of life in todays employment regime in RM.

As for the debate on sexism - we men have always known women have it easier - old folks homes are full of octagenarian & nonagenerian women, the ratio is about ten to one, oh yes ladies we men have it really rough in comparison. :wave

I have been fulltime for 12yrs part time for another 8 and back to F/T for the last 3.

I use to cut and tip and yes i did ruin my nails but I still ruin them delivering mail , As for driving before I went back to delivering mail via cycle I drove up to and including 600 duties.

My issue with Part timers is that Rm have used them to carve up duties and trying to get rid of senority,
Every time a fulltime position has gone in our office ,is only replaced by part time hours, nothing against part time working as some folks can only do these hours.

Sorry don't know where you are coming from..... I honestly don't know of any full timers who dislike part timers what a silly statement.....

We are all equal, if anything I personally feel sorry for part timers as they have no prospect of getting a full time wage nowadays off RM....

Your statement is unhelpfull and plays into RM's hands divide and conquer, lets all stick together and help each other not fall out amongst ourselves.....
resentment and dislike are two different things i never said dislike , and we arnt all equal thats a silly statement the high turn over of staff are p/t and p/t are on the recieving end of bullying more i witness it every day to ignore that is to play into r/m hands so i hope you dont mind if i take offence to your comments
Sorry if I offended you, that was not my intention.......

Personally I don't understand anyone resenting / disliking or whatever part timers or any grade......

Yes you are right regarding the rough deal part timers do get and I have voiced ny opinion in our office regards, With the start times being pushed back constantly how on earth can part timers hold down two jobs to make a decent living wage. Too early to do a second job before the start of RM job, too late a finish to do one at the end of the shift for most other P/T work. The job with RM is now occupying the middle of the day not good for part time staff and has lead to a lot of good P/T staff leaving our office.......

Now I am going to show my political bias here but WTF do people blame FT or PT for the crap at Royal Mail.

There is only 1 divide in RM and thats between the managers and workers. Everything else is crap designed by managers to deflect anger from them, and to cause distrust and friction between colleagues.

I don't give a hoot whether the woman or man on the next frame to me is Full Time, Part Time, Driver, Bag Carrier, Locker staff, book room, callers office or even DOM support as long as they work hard and support their colleagues - everything else is chaff. The measure of a person is not based on the contract they have, or the hours they work or what job they do , but their own character and values.

Congratulations! We've found another way to Divide an already Dived Workforce! :Applause Add Male v Female. For the record, in my Office The Girls are treated pretty well, I think the DIM rates himself as a "Ladies Man"!

If your Office treats FT and PT equally well, then I congratulate you. :Applause With 1500 Offices there must be some working well. It's been mentioned that the main reasons PTers are singled out for H & B are... that they are invariably new to the business.... are on temporary contracts... are not in the Union.....are not told their entitlements (like MR & cutting off)........and feel pressured to create a good impression.

I hope RM have shot themselves in the foot. A lot of our PTers have now started taking on extra PT jobs to make ends meet. I hope when the Pressure builds up at Christmas, and the DIM asks, "Do you fancy doing some extra Deliveries"? They'll feel able to say, "No thanks, I've got to be at me afternoon job for 1400, but thanks for asking"! :Very Happy

What is it?
If it's s**t then some of us are in it up to their necks while others are just wiping it off their boots.

Love the consistancy regrading PT 22.5 hour contract starting times at our place, pick a random time between 0800 and 1000! Why? Because the duty holders know full well that double prepping fails and they are not prepared to work into the late afternoon, so management let them come in early, but then if these early starters work past 4.5 hours they will only put an o/t claim unless they go over by more than 20 minutes.

DSM "would not pay overtime" today, but rather than show walks cannot be completed even on a "quiet Tuesday" doing the job vaguely properly (i.e. pushing trolleys around the whole walk instead of locking them up and doing loops with pouch way over 10 minutes each, massive mail security breach and weight on shoulder), many chose to show the DSM that these walks are doable, while a selected few offloaded some delivery points and delivered what they took out at reasonable pace (and vaguely correctly) to return to the depot at the correct time. :arrrghhh

Lets get this thread back on track , managers turning a blind eye to posties coming in early, going round the deliverys without seatbelts, not taking breaks ,breaking all the security rules , not doing van maintanance i could go on forever .Yet a postman who does his job properly makes a wee mistake and hey presto the manager is on him like a leach .Boys who belt round delivery finish about 2hrs early but dont sign off ,then in teamtalks say u must sign in and out , when we highlight the fact its the boys who finish 2hr early thats not sighning off they turn a blind eye and deaf ear .Another thing they turn a blind eye to is ,u might have a postie who cackles and cackles when hes supposed to be prepping ,goes out later than he should do, then flys round delivery nothing is said .Yet a postie prepping in the right manner ,goes out does the delivery in right manner is pulled saying he is slow at prepping :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

Do you work in our office :Very Happy  ...... At least it's consistent throughout RM. I get frustrated when sorting that the gaffas fliers are allowed to talk, play on mobile phones, walk around the office having the creik with their mates etc without even being spoken to :mad :mad (not that I want to as I am paid to sort) and told to get on with their work...... Yet we are constantly getting complained at that we are not sorting quick enough as a unit.... Open Your Eyes !!!!!!! mind we wouldn't want to upset them would we they might not do docket :no no :no no :no no

"Every office has RFID scanners" somebody has written in an earlier post.

Firstly what the feck is an RFID scanner, secondly I can assure you we do not have them and thirdly half of us don't have ID badges either.I suppose thats what you get for working out in the sticks. On the plus side I would rather be out here than in a big office in a town,we don't get half as much mither.

Problem is no matter how hard they work it still ends up with the old Seniority nutshell. Some lazy t~~ts still stay ahead in the pecking order!
Where is the incentive? Only yesterday I heard a full-timer say "Can't wait for the snow. Half a walk and no packets." Lazy c--t!
