ask the manager to walk in front of you and to put the bag on his shoulder

I reckon if they gave us an articulated trolley or one of them like them bendy bus things pulled by a little ride on tractor, we could mow the lawns as well for people as we go. There are so many entreprenurial ideas on this forum from posties. Why the f.ck cant management come up with some bright ones. :nana :nana :nana :nana :nana :nana

well then you would have to think 'outside the box' and decide to alter your delivery so it fits in a trolley

then do the other bit so it also fits in a trolley

whilst also thinkiing of ways to minimise the distruption

really you would it's called 'adapting to the workload'

Is the time for this built in when planning though?

Tauras88 is bang on
There will come a day when they actually have to come out with their tail between their legs and either start all over again or revert to the way it was. No doubt that will come when RM has been privatised and when the individuals responsible, rather than getting their just desserts, will have received very comfortable pay-offs. Isn't that the way of the world nowadays? If your job title includes the word 'manager', incompetence is a recipe only for a golden handshake.

its clear to me that some people get it and others dont, the formula that is used to put the loops and times together clearly has nothing in it that takes in volume and history. i know it sounds weird but think about it, in the office you work you have probably done a fair few of the duties in it, also you would have had many conversations about certain rounds that are always heavy with parcels. so why do the planners not seek advise or talk to the people that have done that round and put it into the equasion, a good example to me is look at your frames at drivers and walkers loops ,the walkers loops are slightly bigger , is this to give time to the driver to go off and do the bigger packets ? even if that is the case the loops on my duty usually the bags equate to 2 to 1 [3 or 4 out of 5] .he can leave his trolley in the van and carry his one bag where i need the trolley for the two i end up doing more packets and mail . and i know in our office others have it similar, has any body else noticed this. i put these questions to various bods in charge and got various diff answers.

You cannot 'adapt' a park and loop delivery, or do your own thing within the loops. You could technically be conducted for it, moreso if you end up claiming. Just be careful out there.

If you have three bags of mail for one trolley something is seriously wrong. The loop is too large or your packets are too big. How often does it happen? Does this include multiple small packets for a single address? If the answer is no and the packets are walking size, the loop is f****d.

Make the planners earn their money, don't do the planners work for them. They were the ones supping free coffee and scratching their balls whilst we were all out there getting the job done well enough the old way. Why on earth would people be willing to show RM how to make a s**t system sorta work? Why go over and prove it can be done? If everyone stopped adapting and bending over backwards trying to make these stupid delivery fads work we would probably be back to bikes soon.

Ok, as for your other question. Our park and loops are planned so the walker does two bursts and a driver does one burst with a 'packet burst' to do. This only usually happens once, at a certain place on the delivery. No walker should take any large packets. If your bag is stuffed with large packets then there's your problem right there.

no time whatsoever has been included by the planners for this, this would cause a cut off and Royal Mail managers would blame your revised bursts. Dead walking aplenty. I'll hazard a guess and say you were being sarcastic and forgot the smiley.

How much mail you have is not the whole question. Does he do more calls during that time?

i have more calls ,on some we are within 10/15 on two of the loops we have altered because the call diff was greater than 30,but the other difference weve noticed is distance the worst and best example is on loop 2 of our walk , his calls are 76 mine is 98 . in his 76 33 calls are in three blocks of flats 3 storeys high with the remaining 43 in the same street down one side then back up the other the street is no longer than 100 yards approx ,mine is the other end of that street but one side length equalish then a small road of 12 onto a road of about 40 houses with 2 cul de sacs one each side each having 12 or so calls. his is always one bag where all but one day so far that loop has been 2 bags,

our little two bag trolley is to be compared with marmite you either love em or hate em ,i actually dont mind them but i dont see the point of them if you have a very light loop to do ,what is the protocol there, i have 6 loops one of which is a 15/22 min 1 or 2 bundles and upto 1/2 a dozen packets 50 calls approx [easy light bag]. all the rest are two baggers and some times three ................................................................ :hmmmm

right serious question

why were you not involved in the planning stage?

Why were you not asking questions about this to your planner?

Is it becasue you were not asked or because you couldn't be bothered?

and that is a serious question not a piss take ( just in case you take it the wrong way)

I personally spent over an hour with the planner when my walk was in the planning stage ( and the walk it is paired with) we ironed out all the problems about length, time, parking and weight/packet issues then - because as you say I know my walk the planner doesn't.

As a result my particular park and loop works fine - however the bloke two frames down who when asked to go and sit with the planner answered ' I don't get paid to be a planner he does so no I'm not gonna go and help him'

as a result the planner had to guess and his round is a nightmare - see what I am getting at?
