I'm getting SIGNIFICANTLY late mail and have noticed that my postman occasionally works every other day.
Complaints to Royal mail have failed, so i've filled in an application with postrs (like a mail watchdog) whom are very interested and indicated that hoarding mail/not delivering daily is a breach of contract.

I live in a block of apartments and have compiled evidence that the postman doesn't deliver daily, and there are many premises within the block, so surely some mail is due?

Don't bother complaining to RM, as I feel that they really couldn't care less.

Google Postrs, phone them, and request an application form. Failing that, I believe there is an online application.

Damo as stated before RM are going thru some significant changes at the moment. It could be that in your area (as many) these changes are not working. If you don't make the company aware of it, it's going to stay like that. Whilst I'm sure yours is also a good idea, I would not say to not bother contacting RM. The management may be hopeless, and the changes may be not be working (surprise!) but unless those in higher places than the postie know that it's not working it's not going to change!

As for the hoarding mail or delaying mail. It could be that the postman has felt he wouldn't complete his duty in time and was told by management to leave your block of flats for someone else to do on overtime. Therefore a postie has been out at an unusual time when you may not have seen him.

By significantly late mail, I would like to know what you mean? Being delivered later in the day or things taking a while to arrive, would be interesting to see what class this mail is, whether it's first, second, mailsort or the stuff other companies sort.

Seems like a good avenue - However, before you approach them you have to exhaust RMs procedures;
I have a complaint about a company that is a member of POSTRS. What should I do?

You must give the company a chance to settle your complaint before you apply to use POSTRS.
You can do this by following the company’s formal complaints procedure and contacting their complaints department.

You can apply to use POSTRS if:
you have not been able to settle your complaint within the timescale set out in the company’s complaints procedure; or
the company has referred you to the scheme; or
the company has not followed its complaints procedure when handling your complaint; or
you have not been able to contact the company, despite making every effort to do so.

Guys, I should of made it a little clearer; I have contacted RM a few times over the duration of 3 weeks, and have even got a reference #.
Everytime i've phoned, i've been presented with the same drivel of " I'll send an email to the Sorting office manager ".
I'm not at all satisfied with this, and no hypothesis has been reached, nor have they even had the good grace of sending documentation saying sorry for the crap service, ETC...

Most first class post is taking one week to arrive, but just today something has arrived next day.

I don't mind waiting a few days for first class post, but one week is unacceptable IMO.

Whether changes are in progress or not, i'm led to believe that they're in breach of their licence requirements.

Royal mail used to be envied world over, but now they're merely a laughing stock.nts.

Have u spoken to the delivery office manager yourself by calling or asking to speak to him directly? As i said, it could be that he is aware of the problem and looking at it or completely unaware of the problem, therefore it needs highlighting to him. I know these reports should be on his desk but always found it better to put him him on the spot

Just a quick update. I have only just received a reply from Royal Mail looking into this for me  It starts with:

"I'm sorry to hear you've not received any mail one a Monday or Tuesday and
appreciate the concern this causes.

Having checked all available service information, I can confirm that there
are no known problems with the delivery of mail to your address or to your
area.

Our delivery offices make every attempt to ensure all mail is delivered as
soon as it's prepared and available at the office, so it would appear that
no mail has arrived in the delivery office for you on the days mentioned.

Please let me know if the situation continues though and we'll make
additional investigations."

Sorry but I think this is a ridiculous response! It wasn't just one monday and tuesday, it was a pattern.

I do get post most days now but still quite late on. I'm sure the local sorting office are still ironing out all the problems, I just wish the Royal Mail would be honest about it (as you guys on here have been) it might have saved a lot of frustration. They really should change their complaints proceedure. They pay people to fob off their customers with lies which only infuriate all the more.

Thanks again for taking the time to try and help me.

To be fair to our Customer Service colleagues they have to rely on the information they are given, so although what they say may not be accurate they are not telling lies on purpose.

The one common comment throughout Royal Mail from Customers, colleagues, the Union, clients and suppliers, seems to a lack of communication. If Moya wanted to concentrate on one issue that could make a difference, communication and improving it, would be my choice.

Also having worked in a CS environment the email reply seems to be a "standard" reply. In other words they may have set replies to send and ar not allowed to change it to reflect the real world, the Monday Tuesday reply may have been the closest fit, and they may not have a standard reply to a pattern of certain days as it does not fit into their view of the real world. Its not an excuse but it certainly reinforces the lack of communication we suffer from.

The email was much longer than that and I'm sure the rest was a standard response. With the typing error in it I thought they may have at least made the first paragraph up themselves!

have you contacted the delivery office manager yourself, either by calling the local office or going in yourself? you will probably be able to get a more direct response from him if there any problems

No post again for 2 days now and I know there are things due. Although I have been mostly getting my post now, it doesn't come til after 3.30pm. Do you think at this time of year when it's this busy, that my post just gets taken back to the depot when the postie runs out of time to deliver it?

I must be the last road on the delivery route. I'm sure the postie is doing the best he can but this is so annoying. I think it's his day off tomorrow so another postie will have to deliver everyones monday/tuesday and wednesdays post! (and it comes much earlier on his day off) Sorry to moan but this is driving me mad.

Makes me wonder if it's an office that's gone through a revision and the postie is cutting off tbh. I seriously think you need to speak to the DO manager regarding this.

Don't get me wrong, if this is happening, then your normal postie is doing his duty properly, the new revisions are bringing in duties that are too long to complete and either force the posties to return items or work overtime, which they are often not paid for. Maybe the guy covering does the duty differently, uses his own car or is what we call a runner. Later start times also means later delivery times for customers unfortunately :so there

Thank you Mazza. I'll try speaking to the DO manager but they don't answer the phone there. I'll have to go in and I'm not sure it will help. I just want to make sure they know this is happening. I wish my postie could change the order of his route but someone is always going to miss out on their post at the end of the round!

Just been fobbed off via twitter

"there are no reported issues with your delivery walk from our ******* Delivery Office." They would say that wouldn't they!

Any suggestions?
