Re: eddie stobart
They now have their foot in the door and i believe the logistics will be the first part of Royal Mail to fall to the private sector,Eddie Stobart would love to buy the logistics, not only for the outlets it would give 'em,but for the shear prestige of shipping the Queens mail around the country

Re: eddie stobart
I think you missed my point - why did you post just Eddie Stobbart - for a debate we need context, discussion points and opinion. Just naming a company is just that nothing else. Care to expand on what point you are trying to get across.forestbodd wrote:we name dhl and tnt why not stobart all part of the master planTrueBlueTerrier wrote:J H Dews

Oh I see you have already started another thread, on this I'll merge them it will make your point a tad clearer.
Now merged - I have highlighted those merged from Blue Shirts to try and aid clarity.

RM to be split up and sold off.........................more money for the government than selling as one concern, PF, logistics, MCs all flogged off with only DOs and POs left (and both of those to be split up even further and sold off).

Re: eddie stobart
GLS will probably be first..as a pre-condition by the EU to allow state aid.
I'm not sure what financial value Logistics would have trying to sell it as a going concern.
Logistics could possibly be put out to tender rather than sold off, someone like Stobart could win the contract and the existing members in Logistics would either transfer over under TUPE or be offered VR.

Re: eddie stobart
I was told that Rm were using Stobarts because they cannot get enough agency drivers in London and other places, due to the new Network 11 spread of work, plus summer leave as well!! For example London apparently have to many duties, and other vocs around the country have not enough duties for the drivers. Which if true is crazy.
I am a network driver and to be honest, i am quite concerned about being sold off to Stobarts or some other company. Still i'm sure the National talks under Dave Ward and co will see us right.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the distribution function in MCs transfered over to logisitcs. RM were supposed to be transfering distribution functions over, have they gone over yet at any MC?fishtank wrote:GLS will probably be first..as a pre-condition by the EU to allow state aid.

MCs would be free to use whoever they wanted for deliveries and POs could sell services for all of RMs current rivals. My guess is that logisitics and rdcs would all be taken by one company.DGP1 wrote:RM to be split up and sold off.........................more money for the government than selling as one concern, PF, logistics, MCs all flogged off with only DOs and POs left (and both of those to be split up even further and sold off).

Re: eddie stobart
Remember in the 90's there was a plan to sell off RM Streamline. That has effectively happened now with DSA except that RM did not receive any proceeds from the policy.
Has any other large transport fleet outsourced it's transport? BT? It would be a huge undertaking for any compancy to take on RM Logistics and don't forget the advertising benefits of having Royal Mail on so many 40 foot trailers so I doubt we will need to be concerned about this for years. And do RM really want the break up of the Business, I doubt it.
