surely, if they are going to peddle him for either not being trustworthy, or not securing the integrity of the mail, then they have pissed on their chips by NOT suspending him. he cant be trusted to do the job properly, or is a fraud suspect? ,,,,,,but just let him carry on working!! haddaway and shite.,,,,,2 year serious.

I know of a colleague in a nearby office who does this regularly, maybe five times a day, and why ? To save perhaps several minutes a day. Not a 'mistake', just absolute stupidity.

Signing for an item is handing over responsibility to someone else and not the same as confirming delivery.
Tracked items are confirmation of delivery (except signed for obviously) and not the same thing.
What would you do if someone signed your van out for you on your behalf without your knowledge or request and got a speeding ticket? Not too far distant from you signing for a customers package and the dog ripping it up.
I probably wouldn't sack him but it wouldn't surprise me if it happens.

I don't know why people do it, if someone doesn't come to the door then they can always collect it, I brought back 6 recordeds today, no hair off my back (maybe a little bit off the top though

Just a little update.
Thanks to some vigorous defence by the CWU the lad got a DISMISSED Suspended for 2 years. Which in the face of it is a result.
Basically got off with the theft charge and fraud but guilty on 4 charges of Failing to carry out Procedures for safeguarding and delivery of Signed For items.

It would seem if you are p/t in an understaffed office you are virtually fireproof.paddytoon wrote: Part time covering Full time hrs.

the only time it may be possible to sign for items like this would be for someone you are very familiar with, and also sign it in your own name, or else it is fraud. You are using your own judgement for this. For instance, I have signed for items for my best mate when he has been out.
