How about this for nuts  One of our lads knocks on a door with a special, about 11 o'clock, no answer so he posts a 739 and taps no answer into the PDA, around 2 o'clock he's flagged down by the customer who apologises for not being home earlier and can he have his special, of course he can, off he goes, everyone happy..... :dance
Next morning boss asks him why he failed the special? 'I didn't' he says :hmmmm
'yes you did, it was delivered around 2pm' says boss
he went on to explain that under no circumstances should the customer be allowed :speak to the hand to have a special after 1pm, the lad should bring it back to the office to be scanned back in!
So the next time we see a customer later in the day or meet him on the road we should tell him he can't have his special!! :arrrghhh
You couldn't make it up!
I kid you not

One of our female posties had nine specials in one day last week, when she asked the Lino which ones he wanted her to "fail" she was left with two and a driver was told to take the rest.
We find that always works, ask which ones you are to fail, seems to work wonders. This is best done just after the lino's have covered all the walks and schedules.

If that is not possible then it goes on a driver.

If you are on a HCT delivery it is not always possible to change the delivery route so usually give it to a driver :cuppa

That's the problem with PDAs.
We've not got them, so it's the 'advised time' that remains on the card when they sign for them later. No problem. :Very Happy

It's bollocks (unless the rules have changed) as long as they are delivered then that is all that matters, I've had people sign for them after 1pm and have never been asked why.

if a special has been 739`d and you have chance to get the customer to sign for it after 1pm, go back to the first screen on the pda and set it to indoor instead of outdoor then set it as customer collected on the callers office. that way it won`t go down as a failure and you still have a signiture for the item. :nana

but surely if you have scanned it already, earlier, the code has went into the system as an attempted delivery with no answer, then re scanning after one should not show up as late or failing surely, I do this all the time, as people can sometimes catch me as I do my large parcels last

I believe that scans need to be in order i.e.
Scanned into the office
Scanned as On Delivery
Scanned as 739
Scanned as Available for collection (then rescanned as On Delivery)
Scanned as Delivered

It missed the Available for collection and On delivery scan back at the office.

when I got my training on this it was DRUMMED into me that the scans must follow each other in the correct order..... go figure!

You should not be handing mail over in the street! :no no
Even if it's your best mate asking for his mail, cover your back! Remember, you're on your own out there!

What has happened to making the customer happy, ours is a communication business we talk to our customers, i know about 75% of my rounds residents by name wheres the harm in helping them out. Honestly i feel saddened at how we are being penalised for doing the right thing and making peoples lives easier.

Managers just dont seem to realise this and treat every one from customers/staff even other managers with mistrust and accusations its all about profit over people and its wrong no wonder the public has lost faith in us.

I completely agree with you, but RM has made the rules and if something on a delivery goes tits up, we'll be the ones standing in front of the DOM pleading for our jobs! I ALWAYS refuse to hand over mail in the street, same goes for doorstepping and leaving parcels/packets with neighbours!
