Hi was looking for some advice. My mail is being redirected from my old address and has been for 3 weeks. Today I received 3 letters, 2 from csa and one from my old council. All 3 were copies on yellow cheap paper and not the originals, the envelopes under further investigation you can see where a glue stick has gone past the normal gumming line.
My question is, as I fell out with ex landlord and parents, is it possible either of these are intercepting my mail and taking copies, or could it legally be anyone else. Please help as I am in quite a panic now!!

Re: Redirected mail being opened
If you have an offical RM redirection then any mail addressed to you should be redirected straight to your new address. Any mail addressed to you and another person will be delivered as addressed. Any mail addressed to the occupier will be delivered as addressed. If your mail is being redirected by the new householder then the mail should be redirected in 24 hrs without cost or after 24 hrs as a surcharged item ( althought most items are not surcharged ) If there is no redirection and the new householder does not want your mail then they should return it to Royal Mail endorsed " gone away " . AT NO POINT SHOULD YOUR MAIL BE OPENED. ( unless in special circumstances by the police , customs or security forces ) in which case you would not know it has been opened unless stated by a customs sticker. If you have an offical redirection and the mail has been opened then i would think the letters have been delivered by mistake and either opened and redirected by the new owners or opened and handed back to the postman who has the correctly redirected them

Re: Redirected mail being opened
It is a proper redirection paid for at the post office. The postman is a friend of landlords (not that I am blaming him), it's just very strange that I have received the copies and not the originals too. Surely even if police were to intercept it for some reason I wouldn't be sent the copies!! I just don't understand this at all, and need to find out who is getting hold of, and tampering (taking copies) of my post asap!!

Re: Redirected mail being opened
plus just to add, there is no-one living in my previous address at the present time, so all post should be redirected by post office. Does the post still go to the local sorting office in the village before being distributed round the village?

Re: Redirected mail being opened
Have you asked those sending the mail about the way it was received??

Re: Redirected mail being opened
I suggest you get in touch with customer care and explain your redirected mail has been opened and could have been delivered to your old address , they should get intouch with the delivery office and a manager should speak to the postman to make sure no mail for redirection is delivered to your old address. If you still have a village SPDO then the mail will go there to be sorted for delivery by your postie

If you are sure that your mail has been tampered with you should contact the police and Royal Mail immediately.
You may want to contact your bank as well...it is possible you may be the victim of identity fraud/theft.

Re: Redirected mail being opened
I have sent an email to the fraud/security section of royal mail and am now awaiting reply, I have been told the police won't do anything!! If it were identity theft I doubt they would send me copies of the letters lol
