intersting tidbit on Hayes though:
[quote]
Recently Hayes cemented his rightward evolution by joining the Compass group—an organisation that played a central role in fashioning New Labour and ensured an orderly transition from Blair to Brown. He addressed a Compass meeting in the House of Commons at the height of the postal strikes and publicly embraced the market economy with the words, “We are not spectators of the market, we are participants, and we want the market to serve the consumer not vice versaâ€

In my long POSTAL experience ,endurance 20 yrs+ most people are not at all like that .
Sounds a bit ivory towerish, bet he,s never done a days labour (work) in his life.
Someone once said we are only two lunches away from it. True imo.

I know one thing: There are more people in my office with revolutionary tendencies than there were when I started in 1980. As someone who would like to see the present order trampled underfoot, I can only thank Leighton and Crozier and all the so-called managers we've had in the last ten years or so.
"We have always lived in slums and holes in the wall. We will know how to accommodate ourselves for a time. For, you must not forget, we can also build. It is we the workers who built these palaces and cities here in Spain and in America and everywhere. We, the workers, can build others to take their place. And better ones! We are not in the least afraid of ruins. We are going to inherit the earth; there is not the slightest doubt about that. The bourgeoisie might blast and ruin its own world before it leaves the stage of history. We carry a new world here, in our hearts. That world is growing this minute."

i mean leaders on a national scale, ive seen no one i would follow to the end of the street never mind the end of the world, plenty of people spouting off in their own comfort zone changes nothing,at least the farmers at the petrol blockades had there own union and a unwitting but competant leader to follow, any force of change in this country would get stuck at the first crossroads as everyone argued which road to take
