It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I have written to RM and have asked for the annual report and accounts under the freedom of information act 2000. They will now under law, have 20 days to respond.

I will keep you posted (no pun intended).
I have received a reply which I have typed below;

Dear

Re: Information Request

Thank you for your request under the Freedom of Information Act for a photocopy of Royal Mail's annual Report and Accounts for 2006-07. I am pleased to enclose a copy of the Royal Mail Holdings plc interim Report for the half year ending 24 September 2006. Unfortunately at this stage I can't provide a copy of the final Report and Accounts for 2006-07, as these have not yet been published. Once ready, the Report and Accounts for 2006-07 will be published on our internet site (www.royalmailgroup.com) where you can also access REports and Accounts for previous years.

Information intended for future publication is exempt from disclosure under Section 22 of the Freedom of Information Act - this exemption applies to enable public authorities to publish information at the most appropriate time and only once all necessary processes and checks have been completed. The exemption is subject to the 'public interest test'; however we don't believe there is a public interest in the early disclosure of information in the yet to be finalised Report and Accounts and therefore in this case consider that the public interest is best met by maintaining the exemption.

If you are unhappy with this reply you do have a right to request an internal review - please write to: Head of Information Compliance, Royal Mail House....etc..etc..

If having requested an internal review, you are still not satisfied with our response you also have a right to appeal to the Information Commissioner who can be contacted at:.........

Yours Sincerely

Freedom of Information Officer.

I will request an internal review as I can't see how it can be in the interests of the public for a publicly owned organisation to with hold its accounts from the people that fund it.

I would appreciate any thoughts,

Ooh by the way they failed to enclose the half year interim report. Why doesn't that surprise me?
