Broadcaster BSkyB has announced that it is to scale back the frequency of its flagship Sky magazine and close two of the UK’s largest customer titles.
Sky Sports Magazine and Sky Movies Magazine, spin off’s of the broadcasters Sky Magazine, were launched in 2007 and have a combined circulation of nearly eight million copies.
Sky Magazine, distributed to 7.3m people, will itself survive the cull but its frequency will be reduced from monthly to quarterly.
All three free titles are the largest per issue circulation in the UK, ahead of free titles for Asda and Tesco and the paid for TV listings magazines.
Supplanting the print editions will be a new weekly email from August which will cover much of the content currently provided in the magazines.
Sky described the move as a “more efficient” means of engaging with its customers which would offer more “immediacy, engagement and interaction.”
The move comes as the BBC prepares to sell off its magazine business and as the Royal Mail gets set to up its bulk mail prices.

Bad for RM and bad for us.
There is no 'good' in this at all.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

It's only bad if you buy into "money is king" philosophy . If you think RM should operate as a service, oiling the cogs of a modern, commerce driven, integrated economy then it has no impact at all.
If you think it's bad news then a logical extension would be ;zonal pricing;a three day week ; and either abandon all rural deliveries or introduce a premium rate surcharge to provide "adequate" profits

It's bad news Belial because it re-enforces the "declining mail volumes" mantra of our glorious leaders.BELIAL wrote:It's only bad if you buy into "money is king" philosophy . But that pish only works if you accept their "we must make a profit" mantra, and if you do then massive job cuts and increased workload are inevitablefishtank wrote:It's bad news Belial because it re-enforces the "declining mail volumes" mantra of our glorious leaders.BELIAL wrote:It's only bad if you buy into "money is king" philosophy . If you struggle getting your head round that concept here's another tack. Every lost contract or volume decline reduces profitability and makes privatisation a less attractive prospect for any prospective parasite purchaser

I'm afraid the horse has already bolted, profitability apart, and you know i don't give a s**t how much profit this company makes....work=jobs and that goes just as much for a service as it does for a fat cat's plaything.BELIAL wrote:Every lost contract or volume decline reduces profitability and makes privatisation a less attractive prospect for any prospective parasite purchaser
The balance of the equation might be screwed up but the basic law still applies.

Work is fine but it makes little difference to my daily workload if I walk up a driveway with four instead of five letters , tis a fine basic law
