I have nothing against local reps, in my experience they do thier best but are very much pissing in the wind due to lack of support from higher up the union ladder.

I left the union for one reason and one reason only, the union top bods are either corrupt or negligent. Either way I'm not paying subs so that Hayes can buy himself another burger, or so ward can try and get himself a suit that fits!

As soon as they go I will be back in the union, although I guess that may be some time as Hayes has wangled himself another 5 years hasn't he?

Arseholes that have ALWAYS come in early, run around with overweight bags and used thier cars on delivery you mean? Where the job was job and knock and there was nothing wrong with it until recent years, it was accepted practice and all part of the job. The union leadership hasn't won a good deal for its workers for decades, long before the "do your job properly" witch hunt began.

How is it acceptable to you that a union leadership can recommend a deal where half the workforce get shafted just so the other half can be happy? Where even with full membership support and many strikes, the best deal the union leadership can come up with is exactly what the RM management wanted?

Blame the workforce all you like but you are naive to think that that's the reason we are in this mess!

The problem of the falling CWU membership is part of much bigger problems facing the Trade Union movement as a whole and the left in general.
Having slimmer people at the top of the CWU won't change anything.

An apathetic membership leads to poor agreements.
Poor agreements lead to apathetic members.
To be honest i don't care about the idiots at the top or bottom...it's the decent members caught in the middle that worry me,isolated by an ineffectual leadership and tossers for colleagues.

We're going round in circles with HQ blaming weak members and weak members blaming the size of Billy's waist.
I get the feeling both sides will happily blame each other until we can all fit in a phone box.

I agree - there are a lot of decent, hard-working members who are getting a raw deal.
As a unit rep there is very little you can do to change the "ineffectual leadership" at the top (I don't agree they are) but what do you do about the "tossers for colleagues"?
Frequently they are the bosses little playthings and are used to divide and conquer the workforce.
