Belial,I imagine the half-year revenue figures quoted by the FT journo are for Royal Mail Holdings which includes not just Royal Mail Letters but General Logistic Systems, Parcelforce Worldwide, Post Office Ltd and other businesses.

From the annual report dated 28th March 2010 as follows;
all figures £m
Revenue-------------------------------------------- Profit
Royal Mail Letters - 6,564 -------------------------------121
General Logistics Systems - 1,487 ----------------------112
Parcelforce Worldwide - 299 -----------------------------17
Post Office Ltd - 828 ---------------------------------------72
Other businesses 61-----------------------------------------82 (! No, I don't understand that either but then I'm not an accountant )
________________-------------------------------------_______
Group total 9,349-------------------------------------------404

OK then, what part of "the daily traffic count through MCs isn't measured or recorded by a postie with a clip-board" don't you understand?
WGAF what's sent to DOs and whether it's accurate? That's not how the bean-counters assess how much work RM is processing.

All been said before, many times, but still the same old "me bag's 'eavier"/ "we got two extra trays from the MC" reasoning is used.

A load more MCs for the chop, but still you don't see that volumes must have declined ? So how are the remaining MCs fitting in all that extra work?

You've sussed me out T.

It was all a wind-up after all, but you must admit it was really good how I managed to get everyone in RM above uniform grade, plus TNT etc, plus various postal industry analysts, plus most foreign postal administrations to go along with the myth of falling mail volumes?

Maybe I should apply for Coulson's vacant position... :hmmmm if I'm that good..

Trolley. We have trolleys now we have modernised.

Well modernisation has been going on for some considerable time, years in fact. If mail volumes are falling, and I don't really care one way or t'other, how come:

We are investing in machinery, which presumably will become redundant, because the increased volume of packets and flats won't be suitable for WSM
Vehicles are like candy, we have gone from about 15 to 44, PLUS hire vehicles in the last 10 years
Walks have increased in numbers, with trolleys to carry the mail - again redundant in time
We have increased staff numbers year on year

So who is convinced that mail volumes are falling when it is worth borrowing money to invest with income falling from decreased volumes????

Letters are falling, mail is increasing. Only been working for RM for seven years, but I would say , the amount of advertising that is now being done through direct mailing whether it be addressed or D2D has risen by a higher percentage than the fall off of letters. Yes, the banks and many other institutions have decreased the amount of statements that are sent out each month, but in their place come shedloads of marketing, for loans, credit cards, you name it. Did flats fall off over Christmas as they have done in the past. Absolutely not, they have increased and continue to increase. Of course bags are heavier because we are now carrying more and heavier packets than we should, and there are a lot less of us doing it.
As said before, no company or government would invest 2 billion pounds on a market that is shrinking so fast that in ten years time will be virtually non existent going by the figures that are being brandished around to encourage support for privitisation. What company in it,s right mind will be able to recouperate their investment on a market that is thought to be good for ten years or slightly longer.
Come on Tman, there are many people who will not be hoodwinked into believing this nonsense given out by Royal mail and supported by a section of the CWU for what appears to most as self interest.

Whatever. Whether you blamne it on DSA or the tooth fairy, the reality is clear enough. Those that choose to rely on their fag packets or free gifts in Kelloggs of all their financial information, are in the right place. I'll leave you all to 'its a lie' and 'my bag is getting heavier' to map RML's future prosperity. Old Street really are missing out on the sharpest minds with this kind of piffle. :funneh

What caused such bitterness? Wife run off with a postie? :cry Or was the family pet killed by a 600? :cry

It's easy not to give a damm when you're sitting back with nothing riding on the outcome.
NT is no longer in the loop and it shows...this is just a spectator sport for him now.
I think he already has his top 10 "I told you so" posts saved in his favourites folder. :cuppa
