Its January 1st, where exactly is my xmas mail?

It's New Year's Day.

Where is all my outstanding Christmas mail exactly?

Is it locked away in a national centre, a regional centre, or is my local delivery office lying to me that there is nothing left over kicking around on the floor ?

Where is my international USPS tracked parcel, last recorded leaving the USA in early December. Is there a stack of delayed international mail somewhere?

Where are my UK First Class parcels posted in mid December. Does First Class mean anything any more?

It could be anywhere in the RM network.........I've been delivering packets and mail dated from earl December the past few days so you will end up getting it (probably in time for next Christmas).

But I can't expect a delivery on New Year's Day because no-one except me works on a New Years Day, and not on Sunday 2nd because no-one except me works Sundays, and not on Monday 3rd because it's a Bank Holiday and no-one except me works on a Bank Holiday, and not on Tuesday 4th because my postman will have a headache.

As to your mail...i can only apologise for the poor level of service...if it's any consolation you're not alone.
Where it is and where it's been is unfortunately...anyone's guess.

It's unlikely we will ever be delivering on either New Years Day or a Sunday.
We did at one time however...work bank holidays...and to be honest most of the staff preferred it that way.

I've heard there are more than 50m items of Foreign Mail at the Heathrow World Distribution Centre near Heathrow Airport.
Your US item might be there, or it could have been sent to any Mail Centre in the UK for processing.

HWDC was supposed to be the cutting edge of processing technology but has never worked as it was supposed to.

As much as I sympathise with your delayed mail deliveries - some of us in Royal Mail were working today (New Years Day) and will be working Sunday and Monday as well. Due to recent agreements weekends and Bank Holidays apart from Christmas day are now regarded as normal working days without any additional payments for doing them.

Likewise I sent two parcels to another destination and only one has been delivered. I think it's the posties who refuse to carry more than a certain amount of mail on their rounds and the rest goes missing or back in the system where is stays until someone notices it.

Likewise letters. I had a hospital appointment delivered on the date i was expected there, having been in the mail system a week. Who are the people who decide *when* our mail should be delivered to us?!

This has nothing to do with weather, Amazon or managers. It's to do with the people who sort stuff and deliver it. I think this mess up over christmas is going to backfire badly at the Royal Mail and those postmen who showed they are prepared to show two fingers at their legal obligations to customers.

I'm someone who has been ripped off financially by the RM over this holiday and unlike any other company or agency, there isn't a chance of getting compensation or even an apology.

Give us your phone number and next xmas when the snow is falling and conditions
are atrocious, I will give you a phone call. You can come round take your first of many bags weighing 15kg of mail and then go out
and deliver AFTER management tell you to not go out due to severe weather conditions.
If you are really unlucky one of the times when you slip and fall, you may break a leg or a wrist and then when you go off sick
you may be really unlucky and find out that you wont get paid because you chose to disregard a management order.

Well done I think that post wins the award for the most biased, misinformed and frankly ludicrous post we will probably see for all of 2011.

Who are the people who decide when our post should be delivered - Managers , you know the ones who match up posties with the rounds.

Showed 2 fingers - well is that all the thanks I and my colleagues get for working overtime, working 7 days a week in December, and trudging through the snow when the managers let us out (my office did not stop delivery ever during December)

Compensation - Yes there is check the RM pages for claiming it.

I think it's the posties who refuse to carry more than a certain amount of mail on their round - we are not superhuman we can only work so many hours and carry so much weight and even that has H&S regulations we have to conform to.

Please come back on this UNOFFICIAL site when your opinions are better informed and perhaps when you understand the Workers/Management structure of any workplace better. I mean I don't mind different opinions but at least base it on common sense please.

Endreas, if you feel RM are so bad why don't you send all your letters/parcels by courier and why don't you ask anyone who sends anything to you to do the same?
