I moved 9 months ago to a little Welsh village from a major town in Devon. In Devon I had a superb postie - really lovely chap who "went the xtra mile" to make sure letters and parcels reached the correct person. For instance, one morning he knocked and said I have a letter addressed to your number but not to you. I actually know who it is for - she lives across the road at number XY, but because it is addressed to your number I should hand it in to you. Do you mind if I put it through her door? Of course, I said yes. Lived there 6 years and never any problems at all with my mail.
I have now lived in this house for 9 months and there has been very few weeks without problems! From REcorded Delivery letters which have just been put through the door without any request for a signature (and I have been home both times, and the postie would know that because I live alone and the car is highly visible when I am home), to mail which has been wrongly delivered (corrected addressed with my name, number, road etc but delivered through totally the wrong letterbox) and brought back to me by others later that day, to mail delivered to me when it is for other people on the road (nothing like my name or number), to Saturdays when he delivers mail and then 3 hours later delivers another bundle.
The postie is actually quite a nice chap but totally inefficient and I don't think it is worth talking to him because friends in the village have tried this and no good came of it - everyone seems to have the same opinion "Tim, nice but dim!" (Tim is NOT his name!). I don't want to get hm in trouble but at the same time I am now becoming increasingly worried about whether there is mail going astray that I actually know nothing about (I like doing crosswords for prizes!) and because I am not expecting it I'll never know I did not receive it, to the fact that identity theft is rife and I don't want my information in someone else's hands - one of the things recently re-delivered to me by a third party was my bank statement!
Unemployment levels are high around here and I don't want him to lose his job, but I'd like things tightened up - including the fact that collections from some of the outlying postboxes are NOT being made on a regular daily basis. I complained to the local sorting office and was promised a call back. They did ring back but never left a message and never tried to contact me again (I only know they called because I did 1471!). I have an answering machine so leaving a message would not have been a problem.
Any advice?

Re: What should I do?
Im having a real headache with mail im sending out. I send around 4-5 letters a month to a BBC Mailing address which im pretty sure is still running.
For the past month im getting the letters returned ' RTS ' ..... Theyre all addressed correctly & cant understand why they are being returned ?
Anyone know why this is ?
Im in the Bedfordshire region.
I also havent had any mail delivered in the past 2 days when i know for definite that i should have had mail ........ is there any way to find out why mail is being held back ?

There should be a sticker like the one in the picture stuck to a returned item, it should have the appropriate reason ticked

Re: What should I do?
how do you know this? when we collect from the boxes they have to be scanned with a bar code reader to say they have been emptied, when we get back to the office this is downloaded, so if they were missing boxes then it becomes clear to managers, is it a case that they might have not being turning the tabs around, the bits of metal that say the day on.including the fact that collections from some of the outlying postboxes are NOT being made on a regular daily basis.
There are still ways around this system, but i am at a loss as to how you know they are not being emptied, most boxes now are only emptied once a day usually at night if they are of a rural nature, only boxes that get a lot of mail are emptied more regularly than that
