I know how the arguments go: It's fairly well paid for what it is and there are too few jobs around in the recession.
But thing is: the more workload they pile on us, the less well paid it gets. I would gladly trade it for a lighter, lower paid job.
That's how I felt. In October I got another job, less stress, less workload and more pay. Never felt happier after all them years ESP the last 3 or 4 on royal fail. I was humming and erring bout leaving but just looked at the view of d2ds extra this extra that and thought there has to be better and there is.
This is the problem.

I changed from a reasonably well paid office job, 9 - 5 stressful, full of backstabbers, because I wanted to finish at an earlier time and have a life! (loads of the lads in my DO play golf, weather permitting).

I loved the job, and it was a lifestyle I wanted, now it is nothing like the job I first did, and I might as well go back to the office job. And I even in this harsh employment environment I think I could secure a similar position.

Because of the hassle from DIMs, unrealistic workloads, and forever changing hours! It is something I need to consider early next year.

If RM paid me to go, then yes I would!

On my duty, there's a dustman who I run into now and again. He must only be in his late forties or early fifties, but he shambles along, stooping over his dustcart like the hunchback of Notre-dame cradling a wheeled Esmeralda. It's a pitiful sight, and every time I see him I can't help but think that will be me in a few years time as a result of P&L. :d'oh!

my partner got IHR last year after 20 years service, took 3 telephone interviews with atos and then a face to face, after that it was very quick , think he got his final letter on the tuesday and finished on the saturday, his wages the following week were very very very nice :nana , he was the same as you, he could have left but after 20 years service he was determined to get something out of it

I thought bout waiting to see if they were going to pay out fir vr and had rumours that they would or not. I really couldn't face f@@@king about with all the extra crap that has been forced on the job. Even to hear the dim saying before I left that you will have go beyond your time and then I might consider ot payments was the last straw was just laughable. I couldn't careless at this time I knew I had a start date for new job otherwise I would gave argued that statement. The people in my old office STILL start early and go beyond their time not cut or claim! Unreal. So was it the arse lockers, the job itself or the dims that made me leave? All I suppose. I know I would have either hit the dims or something elsejust as drastic if I hadn't of gone. Reading Simeon of the crap people have to put up with here, I know I've done the right thing in leaving.

Yeah but looking at the money alone is false reasoning. Crozier's nightmare vision has been made reality. And it's going to get worse, we all know that.
In the meantime it's doing our health in. There's lots of us with bad backs, bad knees etc.
Just spilt stain-remover down my shirt. Now how do I get that out?

Im leaving by the end of January all going well, should start my new job at the end of Feb which im really lookng forward to as its a big step up from what im used to (25hr contract) money wise and prospect wise.

Ive been with Royal Mail nearly three years and for me it got better once i moved to a decent office with a decent manager. If you are not happy in your job do something about it as its just a job and not worth making you feel down about.

The only thing i feel a bit dissapointed in is the D2D payments, i really felt the blow from loosing that cash each week which prompted me getting my finger out to apply for the new job.

Also i think its a bit sad how some people need to behave at the Xmas pressure period, they are happy to take the tips from the deliveries but dont want to work a bit overtime in order to complete the delivery for the customers, a few done this all week and come Xmas eve were still happy to leave cards and tiny packets on the frame, yet werre quite happy to boast about the £000 they had recieved in tips.

Now i understand not everyone can work OT due to family commitments etc, but these people are single people who end up hanging about in the office after work in the afternoon as if they are trying to be akward and prove a point. I find these attitudes quite sad considiering the time of year, even if you only worked OT the Xmas week it helps not let people down.

Over all i have enjoyed my time with RM especially the past year or so but i really am looking forward to some new challenges and not feeling like i have had a kicking every night i get home.

The job is cr*p now compared to what it used to be but don't let RM get you down. We are going to have to get used to working to time but that is all you need to do. If you can't finish then tough, if you can't complete the door to dustbin rubbish then tough.
There is nothing left that is good about the job but there is nothing out there and won't be for the foreseeable future with all the cutbacks to come now that the con-dems are in office. Don't forget that we were sold down the river with all the new agreements. £20.60 per week for the d2d rubbish is an absolute disgrace. The walks should have been left at 3.5 hours with just the extra packets and specials added. If you want a job that doesn't entail much work then become a manager!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL WORKERS IN ROYAL MAIL

 Most of us already have that job description thrust on us anyway, and I dread going back to work after the festive period. We need gas masks.
