I have come home to my Amazon delivery :Very Happy which I ordered on the 6th. I have never experienced problems with delayed deliveries before and fully understand why the batch was pushed to the side to avoid even more back log due to the snow. However, I feel that it is unfortunate for Amazon who must pay enormous postage fees to Royal Mail and be let down in this way, it is a shame but then also unusual. I went with the free delivery option from Amazon, although late I have received my parcel in time and am pleased with the service from Amazon and the Royal Mail considering what I paid and the weather conditions.

I hope everyone else receives their deliveries in time for Christmas!!

Thank you to all the post men and ladies who have worked hard over the Christmas period with increased pressures such as extreme weather for the UK which we are not equipped to deal with yet.

It seems other people have started to recieve their packages just in time for xmas. I take it mine was backlogged and delayed with the rest after the first wave of snow problems a week or two back.

It still says on the RM website that they are currently processing it, and the amazon tracking status hasn't changed. No chance in hell I'm getting this for xmas.

I wouldn't mid if it arrived just before the new year, but I very much doubt that.

Very, very unhappy.

Aprilaydee wrote:It depends what they've ordered and where they've come from I imagine. Amazon have depots all over the UK. Ones in Scotland are lucky to have had anything shift from there in a few weeks, where as the ones towards the south east haven't been too badly hit by the snow and so have been dispatching at a reasonable pace.

I hope they arrive in time :)
According to Amazon, there are only 4 fulfillment centres. 1 in Wales (Swansea), 1 in England (Milton Keynes), and 2 in Scotland (Glenrothes & Gourock).
Considering that Scotland generally has worse weather than the rest of the UK at this time of year, I wonder why 2 of their 4 centres are in Scotland?

Cheap labour... they pay them with Buckfast and Tennants Super...

Oooooooh did I just say that?! lol I'm only joking before you all get upset!

I knew there was one in Milton Keynes (used to have to drive past it when visiting the ex outlaws) but I thought there was another for some reason further south. I must've dreamt it!

"Item FJ*******52GB could not be delivered on 2010-12-23 as the address was inaccessible. It is being held at North West (M) DO pending collection/redelivery instructions from the addresse"

I'm assuming the inaccessible is somewhere further down the line as my road is fine. Does anyone know where the NWDO is, as I'd prefer to go up and collect it than wait for another attempt! I'm calling cust service tomorrow, but need to know if I can even get there...
Any help much appreciated!

I really don't know why RM don't allow customers to easily find their local Delivery Office without having to phone them. We have a system in the office that allows us to find out which office and duty covers a specific postcode. Why can't they do the same for customers?!

I'm assuming you don't have any old "Sorry you were out" cards around, or a post office nearby you could ask, without having to phone customer services? A neighbour might know?

So you reckon it might be at my local sorting office (5mins away) and not in Warrington (found it eventually) - that would be a lifesaver! Or is there another delivery office apart from the sorting office? I'm in Salford btw.

(Found address here: ftp://ftp.royalmail.com/Downloads/publi ... ements.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

Thanks

Yes, it'll be at the one where your mail comes from as that's where they're delivered from. I'm afraid I haven't lived around there for a number of years so can't tell you where it is...

I don't know why they don't have one in Wales.................payment would only have to be soft, white and fluffy and tied up outside the depot :nervous

Marshmellows?! :nervous

If you're making inferences to sheep then I'm guessing you haven't seen one before cos none of them around ere are soft, fluffy or white. Manky brown and covered in caked on poo. And they're the good looking ones!

Hah, called cust service an found out it was up at my local sorting office, was about to walk up there and try and convince them to hand the parcels over without a little red slip, when the doorbell rang and they were delivered!
Cue me wreathed in smiles! Christmas is saved!
I'm going to bask in relief for a while, then start wrapping 'em!

Many thanks for all the help here!

Merry Christmas all

As long as you have ID, and prefereably something with your name and address on, there shouldn't be any problem if you don't have a P739/red slip at the moment. Most people are trying to track down things that may not have had delivery attempted so they must make allowances.

Glad they arrived :)

Like others, I have been waiting for a parcel from NW Dist Centre. Contacted my local delivery office and they haven't yet received it so no hope for me  My Amazon order was split into 2 parcels. The one that went to a different distribution centre arrived last week, only delayed for 2 days by the snow. They were both sent on the same day and one arrived at the other distribution centre that night, whilst my problem parcel took 4 days to even reach NW distribution centre on the 18th. Does make me wonder why parcels were still being directed there since it's obvious they were already having problems.

To be fair I don't think the hold up is at the DCs (Distribution Centres) - I think, its he middle of the pipeline at the Mail Centres. My guess is that the DCs have been receiving them and scanning them OK so on Track and Trace it shows as received at so and so DC. But the Mail Centres who have been struggling both with the weather and volume of mail haven't been scanning them (which means it stays on the T&T as at the DC) and they have been tackling the back log as per RM Policy.

Then when it gets to the DO the scanning may or may not start up again (another Managers decision) .

I and many posties believed that RM were closing too many Mail centres and in fact its one of the reasons why we went on strike in 2009. But and this is the frightening thing they still have at least 3/4 of their closure program still going through and when its finished there will be 1/2 as many MCs as their used to be. We though that this cull of MCs would cause problems but RM assured us and the Politicos that is wouldn't who do you think was right :hmmmm
