Customers waiting for Amazon orders can have a replacement sent if they are unable to track their delivery.
- Latest advice
Amazon 'Super Saver Delivery' orders are delivered by Royal Mail. While many of these orders are trackable, others are not – leaving some customers in the dark about when their order will arrive.
What many customers who ordered in plenty of time do not realise, however, is that if they call Amazon, it will check the status of the order and if it cannot track the package it will send out a replacement and upgrade delivery at no extra cost.
Amazon originally promised that orders placed up to 23 December would be guaranteed for Christmas delivery.
However, due to adverse weather conditions the retailer – along with other online shops – has withdrawn its promise. Amazon is now only guaranteeing delivery on items ordered before 18 December.
We reported last week that hundreds of customers have been left in limbo, unable to track orders from online shops.
The Amazon website does not inform customers of what to do if their packages are not trackable, but there is a way to remedy the situation
One of the unfortunate customers waiting on a delivery is This is Money journalist, Dan Hyde. He placed an order with Amazon on 5th December with the estimated date of arrival on 10 December.
Since placing the order, Dan had been unable to track the parcel – he was left wondering if his package would arrive in time for Christmas.
This morning, ten days after the order was due to arrive and just five days before Christmas, Dan called Amazon.
An Amazon customer service representative told him, 'If you're waiting on a delivery from Amazon you need to call up ASAP so that your order can be tracked.'
Amazon will then check the status of the order. If it is being tracked then the retailer will let you know where it is and when you should expect to receive it.
If it cannot track the package it will sent out a replacement and upgrade your delivery at no extra charge.
Dan has now had a replacement sent and his package, which was ordered via the Super Saver Delivery method, was upgraded to first class. He was told that he would have his package within 1 – 2 working days.
The Amazon customer service number is 0800 496 1081 or you can log into your Amazon account and enter your phone number and a customer service representative will call you back.
If you phone Amazon you should be prepared to be on hold for 10 – 20 minutes as they are receiving a large volume of calls - a small price to pay to ensure your package arrives before Christmas Day.
This is Money has tried to reach the Amazon press team since Friday but we have not, as yet, received a response to our questions. In place of a reply we were sent a link to the Amazon customer service page.
Over the weekend some Amazon customers were sent emails that said: 'Ensuring that you receive your order in time for Christmas is our number one priority.' However, it seems if customers are concerned about getting their packages in time for Christmas they should ring Amazon directly.
*Update* Dan received his order through the post on Tuesday 21 December, less than 24 hours after ringing Amazon and arranging a replacement. If you're missing a parcel, get in contact with Amazon right now.

Re: How to get Amazon gifts for Christmas
Are Amazon now going to kick our arse and demand compensation as the 'non scanning of items' that have been going on breaks our contract with them?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
