Re: Delays at South West Distribution Centre?
My road in Swansea has not had any postal deliveries since last Thursday. There has been snow but other roads have had deliveries. No parcels, no letters, no cards. Where are they?
Several of my neighbours have ried to find out but cannot get through to speak to anyone. There must be a huge amount of mail undelivered to us now.

My package is now tracking a "Out for Delivery" Edinburgh SE 4.14pn, although noone has appeared or left a card, and it's now 11.00pm. Maybe it will come tomorrow. Of course, I've just gone out and bought replacement pressies as I didn't think it would arrive in time

Latest unofficial info.
It seems that we maybe catching up on the backlog.
For some it may not be much help but at least things seem to be moving a bit quicker.

Will there be one massive delivery this way or is it mostly gone forever?
This has never happened before. No letters, no bills, no cards, no packages, no postman since last Thursday. All stuff that Royal Mail is legally entrusted to deliver.

Re: Delays at South West Distribution Centre?
Its quite obvious reading these posts from customers that some of them have no idea what impact the weather is having.
Amazon has its warehouses in Scotland which is suffering particularly badly from the snow. Most people complaining here won't have ventured out gfrom their houses themselves to the local shops on foot, yet somehow expect that their post will not be impacted by the snow at all, and that postmen can complete their rounds by somehow skating along the snow without any delays.
I don't know why this site even has a site for customers to post on. The vast majority of royal mail customers appreciate the efforts you are going to, and understand that if planes can't take off from heathrow and thousands of people are stranded there for christmas its not the end of the world if a crappy CD from amazon is a bit delayed. I'm still confident my packages will show up and worst case its hardly the end of the world if they don't!
I'd suggest this site shuts its customer forum and directs people to royal mail customer service instead rather than put up with offensive and untelligent comments from customers who do are not representative of the population at large.

Re: Delays at South West Distribution Centre?
@IAN35772
God forbid the day dawns when we are not allowed to make complaints when our property goes missing under the care of an agency that is legally bound to ensure it arrives to us safely.
It is not individuals this week, it is hundreds, probably thousands of customers who cannot believe they are being let down at this time of year. Posties have always delivered in incliment weather, they are equipped to do so. What is disturbing is the fact customers cannot get in touch with "anyone" to find out what is happening to their mail. We're not talking a few cards and gifts, there are hospital appointments, bills, statements, none of which have been delivered in the road.
The more we find out, the more worrying things appear. Is Royal Mail fit for purpose any more? Where is the stuff that it is legally contracted to deliver to customers?
You may Know. Tell us then. I'd like to know what is happening in Swansea?

Re: Delays at South West Distribution Centre?
Well said Ian and thank you
BTW I would just like to point out the sender is the 'customer' not the recipient.
If you are expecting a hospital appointment you could always ring them and ask if its been sent out. I doubt many hospitals send appointments out for the following week, they are normally 6 weeks before the event. If you are having so much trouble getting through on the telephone to the local delivery office, have you thought about going down there to collect your items?

*** Feel free to complain endreas, No one is saying that you can't complain. I would be complaining if my stuff was missing too. However, as previously stated, complaining here will not get you any further, it's RM you need to complain to.endreas wrote:@IAN35772

**** Euhm.... Equipped to do so? What are we equipped with? The snow chains I was supplied with last year have just split, only spikeys left in our office are a size 11, no good for my small feet. Now onto the transport. Remember that the mail still has to get from A-B. When there are road closures all over the place, the mail just doesn't move. Stuck on motorway myself for 14 hours one day, so realise what it can be like. Locally vans are being stuck in the snow. Bikes can't be used when there's snow on the ground. The decisions on whether to suspend deliveries are taken by managers. Not the posties who are running this site.endreas wrote:It is not individuals this week, it is hundreds, probably thousands of customers who cannot believe they are being let down at this time of year. ***I do agree with you that it's bad you can't get in touch with anyone, I would suggest trying your local office. Keeping in mind that they probably only have 1 person answering the phone, while manning the front office, due to more cutbacks. You're more likely to get the information locally than going through the normal customer services number.
Ok now I ask the question, would you like to walk 8 miles in those conditions, whilst carrying 16k of mail on your back?endreas wrote:The more we find out, the more worrying things appear. I can't tell you what's happening in Swansea, I live up north and can only tell you what it's like up here. If you are getting no information from RM customer services, then contact your local office. It could be that they are doing part deliveries every day, and you will get a delivery a couple of days a week. I really don't know, this is what we did up here when things got bad, Of course there is always the option to collect your mail in person on these days.

Re: Delays at South West Distribution Centre?
Hooray, my big original package has arrived! It came at 10.30am this morning, Wednesday, in the van from our local PO-Sorting office. I think the driver thought I was going to kiss him. Here is the tracking:
22 Dec 2010 02:01:10 AM (Local) DO Out for delivery
6 Dec 2010 08:48:33 PM South West Distribution Centre Arrival Scan
5 Dec 2010 07:28:22 PM Crymlyn Burrows Swansea UK Order has been handed over to the carrier and is in transit
So don't abandon hope, I'm so excited, going to get them wrapped up now.
Happy Christmas Everyone, SAY NO TO PRIVATISATION AND FOREIGN OWNERSHIP.

Re: Delays at South West Distribution Centre?
I think you'll find most customers are happy - when they get a service thats adequate but Im not feeling that right now! Im not sorry about posties working in the bad weather either - all career choices come with ups & downs! Besides my parcel would be coming with the aide of 4 wheels and an engine!!!IAN35772 wrote:Its quite obvious reading these posts from customers that some of them have no idea what impact the weather is having. Sorry Ian, but i work in an industry heavily reliant on haulier and whillst they have had problems everything has been delivered within 3 days of the requested date!
Amazon has its warehouses in Scotland? So tell me why my parcel is in the South West Distribution Centre if it came from Scotland - that means my parcel has already travelled right past my delivery address

Maybe not Ian but tell that to my 3year old when Santa fails to put that special something in her stocking! And yes have tried to source it locally![]()
I'd suggest this site shuts its customer forum and directs people to royal mail customer service instead Have you tried finding a number to contact? I came on this website assuming it was a customer forum coz I can find naff all else to try!.
