I just can't see them getting rid of one of the busier days, and the one day of the week where we seem to get rid of almost everything.
I can.
Most businesses operate on a MON-FRI working week, these businesses expect their mail MON through to FRI, Saturday they're shut and a mail delivery is pretty pointless.
Of those that operate on a Saturday, mainly the big retailers, Saturday is their busiest day for trading and I would guess that a delivery of post not high on their list of priorities. If it should so happen that some will insist on a delivery of post, I'm sure something will be arranged and they will pay through the nose for it. Market forces in action, as they say.

I had no qualms about working Saturday until a reasonable time, but I'm damned if I'll lift a finger to stop Saturdays with a possible 3pm finish from disappearing altogether. :Very Happy

In 2010 the universal service, uniform tariff and 6 day
delivery must be considered in a wider communications
context. More recent evidence from Postcomm suggests
that social consumers are less certain about the need for
deliveries on 6 days per week. High volume users still
need Saturday but Monday or Tuesday could be removed
from the obligation.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Yes, cos if the company is in as much shite as it says it is savings need to be made, we could re-employ the reserves in jobs that are not currently covered due to mindless cut backs. We could then charge a supplement for Saturday deliveries. Another way to make savings reduce the number of managers by 80%. Most of use regular posties need very little management, get the mail to us on time, give us enough time to do our jobs sort out our holidays and the job will get done. Piece of piss this management lark.

When you've voted could you please if possible give your reasons in the thread for your vote.
Postal deliveries on Saturdays could be scrapped under the controversial ConDem plans to sell the Royal Mail.

Business Secretary Vince Cable would allow the company to offer a five-day service, with laws for the privatisation expected to be brought in next month.

He has pledged to keep universal pricing so the cost of a letter will be the same anywhere in the UK.

But sources close to the Government say they can offer "no guarantee" a six-day service will stay.

But the EU legal requirement is for only a five day delivery week .
And it gets worse, if you want to get a hint of what privatisation will bring ,take a look at TNT Holland and our famous RM thought up Dutch model. TNT are lobbying for the rules to be dropped to allow them to reduce the service to three days a week :chuckle Now that will be some redundancy tsunami

voted yes on selfish grounds, work in a mail centre where THEY IMPOSED changes to our duty patterns with all Sunday night staff dropping over £1100 per year in S/A earnings and RM have since spent a small fortune putting in extra o/t hours to cover up their mistake. my saturdays are wasted now,go to to the football then a couple of pints and by 7pm all you are thinking of is going home to catch up on some sleep......Sats are now f@@ked :Boo hoo! apart from my thoughts on SAT deliveries if RM want to take them out they will ,be assured of that! they don't give a flying f@@k about you or anybody's thoughts on it .......they know best have'nt you realised that yet :chuckle

YES. people like to participate, or watch sport on a Saturday. Others like to visit family, or just generally enjoy 2 days off together. Finishing on a Friday afternoon, and not having to go back until a Monday morning, every week, would be tremendous. Also, sick levels would drop dramatically. I am sure E.V.R could be offered, with floaters moving onto those duties. If ever there is a vote, and the CWU ask us to strike, in favour of keeping a Saturday delivery, i am sure, that they will not get the backing of the workforce.

I voted yes for a full weekend with my son, however, I am aware it would cause job losses.

Well, what doesn't cause job losses? Whatever is agreed by the CWU and RM, it leads inevitably to job losses, and what do we gain? Nothing, zero, zilch, only a dishonest bunch of crap about how the latest piss-poor deal saves jobs.
Do not feel in the slightest bit guilty about having voted "YES", all you have done is signalled that for once, just once, you want something tangible from any agreement made by the Tweedledum & Tweedledee of British industry, and not just an even worse job, with worse terms & conditions, than before you lost money hand over fist in a dispute with RM.

I voted yes as well and I don't work Saturdays, the idea was twofold weekends off and go for the shorter working week immanently possible over 5 days.
