Why help these crap managers cut hours and jobs? don't be a fool, leave it to them to f**k it all up thats what they get paid extra for, its not your job to do it
I'm with you, Phantom. :Applause
Royal Mail wants to make savings, fine, let them make savings, the CWU should not be collaborating with management in an exercise which aims to cut duties, therefore cut staffing numbers, numbers which are already pitifully too low as it is.
Already, I am getting that sense of deja vu which always accompanies a sell-out of members by CWU top brass.
A crap deal which gave us nothing, and gave management carte blanche to carry on slashing and burning their way through our industry, has left front-line staff all over Britain facing revisions which will usher in yet more changes to T&Cs, and will leave our jobs just that little bit more shyte than before.
I sense that revisions in a lot of offices are being rushed as per usual, I sense local management in some areas are trying it on because the CWU is particularly weak in those areas, and therefore, I sense that 99.9% of front-line staff, no matter how inclusive their reps felt in being involved on the hatchet job on duties, staff will see yet a further nosedive in job satisfaction levels.

As I said before, Royal Mail wants to make savings, fine, let them make savings. But when those savings are made at the expense of members terms & conditions, then, and only then, should the CWU be seen anywhere near the carnage caused by the worker-hating bosses of this once great public institution, and then, only as combatants, not collaborators. :cuppa

So what about those offices where they are going to have to recruit because of the revisions?
Would it have been better for the reps not to have been involved, better not to oversee the introduction of new tools (IWT etc) and better not to try and ensure the duties are fair and achievable?
If the office is having to recruit then it's not about the CWU being collaborators in a RM savings plan is it?

Of course it might be different in your office. But then your office might be full of people who talk big in the canteen but are actually too scared to get their hands dirty.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Recruit? Recruit who? And what for? SAVINGS, that's the name of Royal Mail's game, not spending! :Very Happy
Recruitment, I'll believe it when I see it, not before. :cuppa

As for your last paragraph, clashy........Not a matter of being scared, believe me. We all know what kind of Men & Women hold key posts in Royal Mail's senior management hierarchy, we all know in what low esteem they hold their employees, no, not a matter of being scared, clashy you young scamp,you......More a matter of knowing who the enemy is now, and will still be the enemy when these rushed joke revisions are complete and foisted on the workforce. :cuppa

Well, I have to say that without the training and in most cases even with it, you will be up against the planner who has had a considerable amount of training.

Now where is the much vaunted support from your Area and Div Rep, who in the absence of your Rep and the fact that you have no Sub Rep, would surely visit your office, speak to the members, ask what their aspirations are and put the case to the DOM that he can move forward with the planning BUT that the Area Rep must sign off the results WITH THE ACCEPTANCE of the members.

So in a nutshell let them do the work and then if the results are crap don't let the Area Rep sign it off. That's if he can find time in his busy schedule to deal with the mundane :cuppa

Great, for you - it's Tank who needs the help though - mind you I'll bet the Area Rep just loves going to a well balanced represented office like yours BD. :chuckle :chuckle I'll bet he just can't wait to get his teeth into the Hob Nobs and the freshly brewed real coffee and you can't wait to have a bit more release. :chuckle

You know why the rep is off sick don't you?....... He doesn't want to get involved, and end up being blamed for the cock up! My advice would be to keep clear :Applause
I see it the other way, if the rep is off sick then the dom wants to move in, while the cats away........

Pls just be careful about the dealings, i have known sub reps lose a case because they are sub reps and shouldnt have been tasked with that role, i think forming a comitee and having it recognised by the dom is best. Just for your sakes.

Having said that, you sound like you were meant for rep, its not all thankless, cmon matey money where your mouth is!
What intrigues me is, where do you find time to form these little commitees? Where I work it's full on from when you arrive, on delivery, and home. Steer clear

I thought one of the reasons for going on strike last time was precisely so we could have a say in our revisions.
Sit on the sidelines if you want - but don't moan when no-one asks you what you want in the way of attendance patterns and delivery spans.[/quote]

I WISH WE COULD GET A CHANCE TO HAVE OUR SAY IN OUR OFFICE. WE GOT TOLD THEY WANTED OUR INPUT TO HELP THEM DECIDE WHERE TO PARK THE VANS FOR EACH LOOP BUT WE AREN'T TO COMMENT ON THE ROUNDS OR THE HOURS AS THESE WONT BE CHANGING!! WE GET TOLD ITS OUR REVISION YET WE'RE TOLD WHAT WE'RE GOING TO BE DOING AND DON'T GET A SAY AT ALL.

Just have a word with the rep. If he or she is happy then you're in. Just make sure you tell your branch. That's all I did anyway for my sub rep to get his position. No voting was required.

What people say on here is right. If you want to do it for a pat on the back then forget it. Having said that though it's better to have a hurdle for the management to trip up on (you) and slow them down in their cause for world domination than snowballing their plans in without consulation. Don't panic if you do go for it and you're not sure about anything - that's what the Area Rep is there for.

Say in the delivery spans??? is that in the process, if it's our rep has been very quiet on it.

:wave :chuckle :chuckle Not cold sausage and tomato, again - give her the hint BD, Foie gras and Caviar when the Area Rep is visiting. We are having a drive to recruit at the moment. I have handed out quite a few letters and you would think with what's in store there would be a number of takers but only one has returned his application form up to now
