Well there is an ignorance involved but it is on the part of the membership being in ignorance of the fact that these talks are taking place at all. You know what happens when talks are secret? You end up with an agreement like the one we are in now.

There is no need to ignore the Government of the day, what you do is set an agenda for talks and inform the people you are supposed to represent what that agenda is - no secrets and no deals within deals.

Considering that the CWU supported Labour in word and indeed financially, they didn't have a hell of a lot of success persuading them to do anything about DSA, retirement, privatisation or the pension.

No 2 separate matters entirely.

I believe that the CWU should address the concerns of the membership with the government of the day and in this I agree with Dingo we do need to have representation at that level.

However, the original article I posted is purely about political manoeuvring and posturing where its fairly obvious that Clegg/Cameron are trying to depress opposition to their plans and it appears if its true, that the Unions and the TUC seem to be going along with it.

Of course there are cross over issues that are both political and operational and privatisation is one of them, but the CWU should not involve themselves in anything that is purely political without exceptional reasons, and certainly not without informing its own membership.
