This is very true and ive argued with Flyer before on the weight of mail issue but its not till you directly compare the two types of area and the delivery call rate that you can really believe it.

Most of my posh customers prob have 5+ bank accounts , saving accounts, shares, time share properties and premium bonds galore. On an average day each house gets 6-7 letters and about 30% get 10+, then you add say 3 flats and all the subscription mags (Top Gear is my fav I get about 20) and the weight goes up.
Then there’s the call rate which means I only miss 10-20 houses a day.

Going off to deliver my absorption on the housing estates is literally another world. For example I did a street all last week with 85 calls which was 2 bundles and 2-3 packets (no sign for’s all week) and this took 20-25 mins. The same amount of detached calls on own deliver takes 50 mins and is 2 full bags of mail with a dozen packets. There is just no real comparison.

It may not be illegal in the eyes of the law if you intend to deliver them, however the practice is certainly ill advised and leaves the person doing it open to abuse from particular managers who may be bereft of any conscience.

I deliver to a long road with 145 houses on it, and rarely get more than 3 bundles and 3-4 packets for it. At the moment i'm averaging around 10 bundles a day for 600 houses, and mine isn't anywhere near the lightest walk mailwise in my office.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Well yes Postman - but you do get 10 hours to deliver them in - :angel

Part time duties in our office do at least 500 calls on a 5 hour contract and that includes prep - wait til pegasus comes to you oo.

On an average day my 600-odd (including ~125 businesses) is something like 15 big bundles (talking ~8" whoppers here, bands stretched to the limit); 30 parcels; ~6 specials; ~8 recorded... A real red trolley full! :chuckle (Better that than my back taking the constant strain of what must be over 10 pouches, hence "I love my red trolley!")

On a 4.5 hour written contract, but a completed round for five days gives me pay for ~33 hours including 90 minutes prep time everyday bar Tuesdays, plus any overtime from doing a row from another walk regularly... Oh and no lapsing, getting back to the thread a little more! :dance

Hey take it easy RL, there was two sets of households as well - and on a 10 hour day that's 25% a day, unless you work the other two on OT and SA :angel
