It shouldn't mean that. What it should mean, is that the CWU are involved in deciding what savings (in this case) can be made. But it's up to Management to decide which Duties are affected. NOT the CWU.

For example:
Manager: We need to loose 5 vans.
Rep: We can't loose that many. We wouldn't be able to get the job done.
Manager: Well, what about loosing 2 then?
Rep: Ok, we can live with that.
Manager: Which 2 Duties should we take the vans off?
Rep: That's your decision, not mine.

I like your optimism Andy but in this particular case the number of vans is not up for negotiation...just the duty that it is taken from.
Full involvement....when it suits.

Our reps gone off on holiday now so everything is stopped for now. We have basically said we do not wish to discuss who will be losing a van as we don’t feel its our decision to make. So she got the arse now until our rep gets back.

I realise that it was a rather overoptimistic example. But it was meant as an example of the difference between having full involvement in the cuts, but not doing the Manager's dirty work for them.

My DOM has been tasked with loosing a van and that is to become a RML revision objective, the powers that be want the revision up and running in the space of the next 12 weeks

We currently deliver to 20 villages/hamlets with 15 FT rural duties of which 12 are van based.

We could easily manage with 14 duties and 11 van based rurals.
