At our place its the walkers that have to get the Lineos agreement to bounce a packet to the drivers. They sign it if they agree, the drivers just take the packets in their yorky nothing else.

But again when park and loop comes n, this will be academic--or will it? The one thing I'm not clear on is will' packet duties as we know them go out the door?
"but all these balshy drivers are always finished early" - not here, where drivers rounds take much longer than the bike ones, which only goes to show how things differ from office to office
Drivers in our office dont get a bad deal at all, sometimes finished a couple of hours before dutiy ends. What I dont get is when they sign the vans back in,surely theres a time at the side of this?.So it wouldnt be to hard to find out how many hours drivers work a week?.Im not trying to have a dig at drivers here as im sure there's some god ones out there. Our however! lol....They stick together on the front porch like a bunch of old ladies in the local Post Office."Well I told her I aint got time for this/that/the other..I aint taking that!It aint signed!"....(so then you struggle to find a gaffer, argue for 5 mins how you cant get it in your bag,and by the time youve done, the drivers fecked off out in his van, only to find the same packet in my packet bag the next day!).
In our office there 5 groups of people. You have got........
DRIVERS= top of the food chain lol.Always moan how hard they have it,yet they pick into it all the time since they normally have seniority priviliges.they act as though its them against the world, the only difference to this is when they are going to finish too early, then they might actually help you out.
GAFFERS=well errrrrrrrrr,,you know,,,
FULL TIMERS=only rally start talking to you after a few years of being there,if your a waysider, you have NO CHANCE of a conversation lol.Infact I would even go so far as to say they are WAYSCIST!!!!!<<<<hahaha,,Bu seriously they do talk down to you like thy are way above you.
PART TIMERS 30 hours= well this is me ;) .so we are perfect in every way,, haha..no but rally I feel we get the sh***Y end of the stick on a regular basis. The only thing that makes us feel better is knowing the Waysiders on 20 hours get a worse deal than us.
WAYSIDERS 20 hours=AWWWWWWwwwwww,,, you gotta fel for em,I was there once and it was crap then,Its gotta be 10 times worse now.Come in at 10am should be all bundled up and ready to go(hahaha no chance)sometimes not a thing put in their frame,at 10am!.what is guaranteed is there wil be a collapsed bundle on their frame with their name written on it.Problem is that at 10am all the experienced staff and union reps have gone out,so they feel under pressure to take it all out and finish gone 4pm on a regular basis.I know waysiders that get paid more than me ue to the incompetence of the gaffers in our place.
anyhow!!!I love my office me,,,,,,, NOT lol .

:Very Happy Hi, lounge lizard--yes some drivers do take out a full compliment, but not a lot! I;ve covered driving duties in the past, and when job and finish came in for example, it was the case in our area, that posties left undelivered packets and specials in their pouch boxes for us to pick up on the way back to the office. I think I was the only driver that did this, and often had to go over time, but most drivers still refused, and got away with it! Ditto they often refused to wait for the folks they were supposed to drop off. Again if park and loop does come in, there will be no packet duties as such,I don't think, so this shouldbe a thing of the past.

Now i'm really confused :confused

Are you telling me that if your walkers decide that a packet (whatever dimensions) is too big for them they have to go find a lino (ha ha ha ha don't make laugh)

and get them to sign (actually put pen to brown paper) Actually I didn't know linos could write but then if you hit a monkey hard enough.........but I digress.........

before the driver will take it? Else all he takes is what is in his york??? Erm.............why doesn't the walker just sneak it in the york?

I'm totally baffled by this one :nervous

I don't understand all the confrontation. In my place we leave our packets under the our frames and the drivers come round and take them. If they are any dodgy ones , they throw them back or take them depending on how much else the walker has to carry.
Yes, there are a few drivers that can be a bit 'sticky', but then again there's a few walkers that take the P.
Compromise and respect, it goes a long way. I have never argued with a driver about taking packets, in fact my driver regularly asks me why I've taken an oversize one. I use a golf trolley and if I can fit it in, I take it. If it's undelivered, I give it to the driver at my next bag drop. Sometimes people like to make things difficult.

I don't get any of this thread.
Why would a driver refuse to take ANY packets, big or small?
You work to your time and bring back what you don't deliver....or does that not apply to your drivers....only the walking guys. :chuckle :chuckle

We have one lazy git who's a master at putting packets across the office into drivers' Yorks. He's also very manager-compliant and happy to switch duties at the last minute if it'll get him a van. I remember once catching him out bringing packets back from the Yorks to his drop bag. A van had come available at the last minute and managers had got him to tackle the packets backlog while they rang 'round casuals trying to get them to do the walk.

Because a driver only does driver's packets - big manly things- and he doesn't take a postman's packet because it is a small girly thing.
Driver's have the seniority to decide what is and isn't acceptable because they know everything there is to know about every walk. They are sort of gaffers in disguise.
(Of course if he has a small tracked item then it is OK to ask the postman to take it for them as it will just fit through the letterbox )
As the saying goes - Drivers, I love them but I wouldn't eat a whole one.

"Packet signing" is only done by the manager of one postcode number at our office (we have 5), just before they all tie up he shouts "Packet signing" and everyone takes their oversized parcels over to be signed by him, and are then put on the driver's Yorks. The walkers occasionally do sneak packets on the drivers but run the risk of it ending back up in their packet bag the next day. The drivers HAVE to take the packets signed by the lino, though.

We all take our toothbrushes in and have to brush properly (even at the back) until all the sand has gone through the timer.
Is that only our DO?

I often say, try fitting it in the van first, if it doesnt fit, I'll take it.

Because of the lack of pouch boxes in our aea, and suitable drop off points our drivers arrange a time to meet some of the walkers with their 2nd pouch, now our driver will take nowt so you have to split your bags down which means more bag meets for the driver, who then runs to the LM complaining that he has too many meets or where there are pouch boxes he can't get them all in, but he must have a difficult job because when I pass his house his van is parked outside so he must be taking a well earned brew

Manager: "Eh, there aren't any, they are on the walk next door!"
