or shock delivering themselves. :hmmmm ironic as they are portrayed as our competition and they not even solid at home.

seriously
what is happening to these tnt workers is outrageous
if was a purely financial decision to get rid of 11000 i wouldn't have such a problem with it.
but the loss of 11000 full timers while part timers jobs are declared safe!
sounds like a political decision to create a different sort of workforce.
Don't see the political decision, just the financial one. I think we can assume that TNT mail delivery trials in UK won't go any further either.
By political i don't mean government inspired as can also mean the internal politics of a company .

If it is financial decision it will make no difference if they are full or part time hours.
you know that a part timers have a quicker staff turnover (students etc)
20 hour workers are less likely to complain about poor conditions or be in a union.
We do agree on one thing, TNT are not credible competition at least for now nor potential buyers .

No regrets about post liberalisation: minister

Post by POSTMAN »

Economic affairs minister Maria van der Hoeven has no regrets about the liberalisation of the Dutch postal sector, despite the massive job losses at TNT Post, she told MPs on Tuesday, news agency ANP reports.

TNT is cutting some 11,000 jobs because of the rise in popularity of email and competition from budget delivery firms, who pay workers as freelancers.

Van der Hoeven told MPs during a debate she would liberalise the postal market all over again, but would set two important conditions: there should be a level European playing field and that proper working conditions for delivery staff should be guaranteed.

Before ordinary letter post was opened up to competition, ministers and employers agreed the budget delivery firms would make sure they employed 80% of their staff on formal contracts by 2012.

The budget firms, including Sandd and Selekt Mail, are now taking legal action in an effort to break that condition.

Social affairs minister Piet Hein Donner told MPs those conditions would be adhered to, despite the protests.

And he pointed out TNT will only begin sacking delivery workers in a couple of years. By that time, hopefully the labour market will be in need of many extra hands, he said.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Ah that old chestnut :chuckle Very popular this one with the parasite fat cats. Just out of interest can anyone provide an example when this claim was backed up with proof of any kind ,statistics ;an independent study, anything other than "opinion' or apocryphal dung? Don't bother trying ,you'd be wasting your time cos it is complete bull ,it just sounds reasonable. Strangely enough RM management are quite aware that the rise of the internet has in fact generated an increase in physical mail :hmmmm
Still the moon is made of blue cheese and this little fable is in no way used to drive down workers pay and boost management bonuses and profit ;liar ;liar ;liar ;liar ;liar ;liar ;liar ;liar ;liar

they probably draw it from the fact that while they on full time release on managers wages plus expences why would they rock the boat to end back on the shop floor or delivering!!! :whistle

Strangely there are many similarities between his style of governance and Royal Mails management style

1. He said what he wanted and expected it to be done despite any consequences.
2. He allowed leaders within his government to set policy within their areas of control as long as it did not affect the "Plan" meaning that different areas did similar things in completely different ways.
3. He let leaders of a similar stature play against each other until one came out on top.
4. He believed in centralised control but once he made a decision he was no longer interested in its effect.
5. He used an internal police force within the party to controls his members.
6. He allowed leaders and informers to brief against "questionable" members and if necessary dispose of them.
7. He disliked Unions and attempted to destroy them.

scary aint it - perhaps a little far fetched but still worrying.

If we do end up being at least part privatised, what chance would there be with TNT being one of the bidders considering the mess they are in.?

So if the Dutch postal system has been opened up to competition in Holland, what are Royal Mail trying to operate there.? or is this competition thing only one way.?
