It should be based on the hours you work (with a set maximum) rather than your contract.

As I've said before (probably many times), RM want to employ p/t staff to flex up and so they don't have to pay them as much money when they're off work as they would a f/t. And yet, even though the p/t can be working shoulder to shoulder with a f/t, doing the same work, same hours, same workload, they get half the allowances and bonuses, all because they've been deprived of a f/t contract and flex up to help the business out.

As I've also said before (although I think only once!), it's a shame the p/t time can't afford to go on an overtime ban (and the f/t staff for that matter) to show rm that it's a crock o'poo and grossly unfair.

But still, I suppose I should feel "lucky I've got a job" and "stop moaning about it". I hope I have an exit interview when I leave. God help them! :evil/mad
If you leave RM of your own accord you should recieve a letter from the Director of HR expressing their regret at your decision to leave, and asking you for your reasons for leaving and your views on the company - they enclose a questionnaire and a sae. They ask you to be 'frank and honest' and state that the information provided will be treated confidentally.

They also say that you should have had a meeting with your line manager before your last day of service, which they trust took place, to discuss if there is anything that could have been done to persuade you to stay.

You should also receive a 'Leavers Pack' which consists of 'information that will assist you in the transition from Royal Mail to your life outside the company'. This consists of

A 'Letter Of Confirmation of Employment' that can be used as a reference for any future emplyer. (Just contains a record of the years you worked for RM, hours worked per week, position held etc - no 'personal' reference)

A document to 'assist in any dealings you may have with the benefits Agency' (Just again confirms all the details of your employment and reasons for leaving - replaces Benefit Agency form ES85 apparently)

A Change Of Address form which you should return if you move within 3 years

and lastly your P45, or if you are taking your pension early, as was the case with me, just Part 1A.

Oh, and they do actually wish you Good Luck for the future :Very Happy

Thats the pickle in it - I don't think it will protect FT jobs in off itself, but what it does is add more traffic and therefore more hours into the Work Plan. I suppose CWU translated the more hours into protecting FT jobs, but I personally think that the link is tenuous as management could in the right situation employ less FTs and more PTs to make up the hours.

This of course relates to the 75/25% ratio on which the matter of if this is a local or national target has never been answered to my satisfaction. If its national then I can see a Manager using the extra hours for more PT positions rather than FT ones.

It's national amd that come from the top of the CWU (Postal side) Ive heard it utterd from big Daveslips with my own ears. :Applause

The powers that be at national level will monitor FT/PT staffing levels to ensure they are around 75% FT 25% PT.

That powers that be at National level SAY they will monitor staffing levels at AROUND 75/25 BUT how are they going to do it and how are they going to enforce it, because just like any office anywhere in the land YOU MUST HAVE THE LEVEL OF WORK TO JUSTIFY IT and if you cannot you cannot maintain what is agreed - just smoke and mirrors like the protection of full time jobs.

It's not really a question of monitoring but what happens if it dips below the required 75%....ish..How far is it allowed to drop before any action is taken?
And what action is taken?
Does an email suddenly go out to all managers to increase their full-time ratio?....i don't think so.
Will areas with particularly high levels of part-time staff be targeted?........again.i don't think so.
We have half a dozen new guys coming in next week....part-time obviously. :cuppa

By the way I am FT, I have been union member for 36 years, been a rep 4 times including two stints at RM, the last time during the recent strikes. I dont do D2d because I've always been a float or reserve but I now have a £20 pay rise while the poor lass who does my post got a £20 cut. And I'm certainly not a rep now.
As my rep said to me when I asked him what's in it for PTs: 'The union doesn't give a f**k about part timers'

I'll tell em where to shove their good luck lol

I'll make sure I have an exit interview anyway. Even if it means me going in in my own time. I'll make sure it's not with my current DOM either because she doesn't deserve the hell I'm gonna give them lol

And I WISH it was retirement... only 29 so got 38 years and several months to go before my retirement age kicks in.
Does this rag smell of chloroform to you?

Full timers didnt shaft you, the effing union did.

Not in my book. I spoke to quite a few FT just before the ballot and they didn't give a s##t that the way they were going to vote was going to ensure that all of the PT were actually going to end up earning less than they did before. Some PT in my office lost £20 a week while some FT who don't do D2D got an extra £20. That is the prime reason why some of them have left the Union. Yes, the union engineered the vote so the FT would vote yes to get this crap deal through.
It opened my eyes to the way this union views its members though. At one of the meetings with the area rep it emerged that if everone was given an across the board supplement it would be £18. But they couldn't do that because the FT "would be upset". (His words)

It annoys me greatly that most of those who actually do the humping of D2D get a pay cut for it.

The word Union suggests some form of organisation all fighting for some "United cause" Obviously not this one.

So FTers dont do d2d's do they not??

Im afraid we all get d2ds to deliver, not just PTers. Some have more to d2d's to do than others, I myself have 640 to deliver, some have a lot less.

And you should be doing d2d every day now anyway, or are you taking the piss out of whoevers duty you cover on a daily basis???

Oh I don't think you've seen the worst yet - wait until the "p" word raises its ugly head - the three year deal is already in the bag, but the terms and conditions in the run up to privatisation................................... well you can pretty much guarantee it's going to be a whole lot worse.
