Theres a chance one of your customers finds your 739 after coming back from a fortnight away,is'nt there? I think if your in the job long enough and you do this thought of thing, the odds are your gonna come unstuck (and maybe lose your job) is it worth it?
That's why i check the bin the next day and the next, just to make sure they got it, if it's still there then i take it back to the office, after i 739 it off-course :Very Happy

Its a tricky one this :hmmmm

I deliver to a town which is nearly 9 miles out from the office and means you have to drive through another town to get there so not always a quick journey and a lot of folk on my round ask me to leave parcels for them.

I have verbal agreements with some of my customers to leave parcels by back gates and in sheds etc. I always leave a 739 so they can look. I am also guilty on the large detached properties to leave the odd packet out of site behind a large plant pot or bin. I await to see if this is going to be tightened up in future and will adjust my working practices accordingly.

The only time ive left a packet resting in view on a window sill is when I can see that the customer is in and iam doing the parts of my delivery where I am looping back to the van. If its still there a few minutes later I walk over try knocking again before I write a 739.
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

It would appear that the majority leave some pckts at some addresses because :-
1. It is a ballache to 739 it and carry it back to pouch off etc.
2. It suits most of our customers who are usually waiting for the item and it maintains a good relationship with these people.

However RM as a company dont condone this, although I bet most DOM`s are aware it goes on and are happy for it to continue
as it saves time and money. Come the revisions that are going to happen this is an ideal time for us on the beat to work to RM`s
rules and make sure that all the time required to do a walk properly is allocated to that walk. 739ing pckts and pouching them all off all add time.

Regarding maintaining good relationships with OUR customers, I suggest that if we p739 an item for them where we would have normally
left it in a safe place, leave a note stating that it is RM that will not allow this. If you want to carry on after the revision leaving items in
a safe place then do so, but know the risks. BUT lets get outdoor time allocated that we need. As RM state "packet deliveries are increasing
on deliveries, letters are declining".

what could possibly occur to damage a book?

i take everyones point, and each area is different. people have different houses, semi's, detached, terraced. one terraced house could be on in a secluded area and another will be on a busy main road where the taking of an item is more likely to occur if left leaning on a door handle in full view of passers by.

'if' the postie did knock, then different posties have different ways of doing things. one might knock twice and if no answer after a minute or two, they're gone.
but then again, what if i was actually 'round the back' - i wouldn't have heard it, or nobody else come to that matter.

if leaving sensitive computer peripherals oustide in the elements seems to be ok, then RM will be getting a bill for the replacement - or any other equipment come to think of it. nobody knows what is inside the package and is anyone's guess.

there isn't an easy an easy answer. they couldn't leave it in my shed cos it's locked. and maybe in the instance of someone else, they may not even have a shed at all. as for leaving it with a neighbour, that is risky as some people do not hand it over. the contract of sending is to the addressee.
postie signing for a signed for delivery and popping it through a letterbox has it's repercussions in more way than one. what if it was a legal document, or someone sending a complaint to someone which requiries proof of delivery? could be a cheque.. all sorts of implications.

best answer would be no answer - no delivery, everyone is covered, no accusations however inconvenient.

It is a ballache to 739 it and carry it back to pouch off etc.

2. It suits most of our customers who are usually waiting for the item and it maintains a good relationship with these people. - this may well be the case, it works both ways. actually in my case, i wasn't waiting for an item on monday because the amazon system was saying it was going to be delivered on wednesday. like i was saying, i could have gone off before the postie arrived, or even gone away for a couple of days.

what if i was living in an area where things DO go missing. imagine a scene, i could have gone away for a few days on the saturday for a few days, i would have been totally unaware it been 'delivered' on monday and left on the door ledge.. some person on the rob floating about, spots a package and helps themselves.. i return on the tuesday evening or early wednesday, and expecting the delivery. nothing would arrive because it had been delivered and unaware of the events. come thursday when there wasn't a late delivery, that's when people start asking questions like 'what's happened to my parcel'?

or it could have happened to somebody who was at work.. and say for example a note had been issued stating an attempt to deliver was made, please pick it up or arrange a delivery.. if someone came home from work say 2pm, by the time they get to M.O, it's closed and the sign says open between 7.30 and 12.30

one way of combating this kind of the thing is for sender to put a sticker on the package stating sensitive rather than fragile, and if a sensitive note is on it, then rm will know NOT to leave it somewhere where moisture damage will occur... but it still leaves the rest of the practice unresolved
and here comes avi cohen! oh i say! at the same end, he's got one back!!

What I was getting at was you actually ordered something and paid for it so it is good for the company for you to recieve it asap and as the reciever 99 out of 100 people would like it sooner rather than later. While the majority of DSA mail people get through their letter box, probably 1 in 10 letters they get they are actually expecting.

Come xmas time, all my best tips come from the people I doorstep/hide parcels for. If they are happy I am happy as unlike the RM bosses I still put customers first :Very Happy Usually they only get pissy when my floater takes parcels back to the office. Which of course is fair enough as he doesn't know which customers want doorstepping and which do not :d'oh!
Union what Union? Do we have a union?

It creates a good relationship with our customers, but what happens if/when one goes missing. If you are prepared for the consequences then fair do`s.

Wasnt me, ive never had it and never seen it before - must have been my floater (the cnut who stole all the election material) :left:
The floater always p739`s his packets and the guy in the callers office will confirm this. Or it could have been my mate on the packet van (no longer a mate) :no no
