You have my sympathy (for having to put up with the radio, not for being a mackem).

I few year ago, I had the same problem. I went in early, climbed up and removed a single wire. This worked a treat, and it took maintenance a year to get round to fixing it.

I know most people won't understand, as the majority are happy to have crap music playing while they work, but for a minority, it's hell. I don't know why, maybe it's a concentration thing, or a hearing thing.

I can't think of anything worse than having to put up with that, other than having to work with smoggies and mackems, although even they stay quiet now and again.

Every other week we have to suffer Chris Moyles , he talks absolute drivel and plays about two songs an hour . Nothing short of mental cruelty .

TrueBlueTerrier wrote:I have always worked in busy offices/environments and I am very lucky I can tune out a lot of noise so it does not bother me. I have the 2 radio thing and a "singer" in the office, a long with football chants and "Anyone know where "x" Crescent IS" and then when the chain gets going its pure madness but I am used to it.

However, if you have a low tolerance to noise and some do, then reasonable adjustments should be made and the radio should be turned down to a level where normal conversation can be carried out.
Yup we have the lot here 3(?) radio's at least one 'singer' and one person that feels the need to bark like a dog as loud as he can multiple times a day! Its a complete nut house.... I get the feeling that RM tolerate substantially more than many and that other employers would have found ways of getting rid of at least 25% of our office.

To answer the original post....

Your talking about YOUR rights and forgetting about other peoples rights. They on the other hand are talking about THEIR rights and forgetting about yours! hmmmmm wouldn't the obvious answer be having a quiet word about turning the radio down as a compromise?

Come on people we're all adults here..... well unless RM have started employing child labour to reduce costs

The most simple way of messing up the radio is get one of those cheap fm transmitters which you use for mp3 players! Tune it to the freq of the station being listened and get within range and it will block it out! I did this in our office but had it connected up to my ipod with death metal playing (downloaded for the purpose not what i listen too LOL) Needless to say the radio was soon turned off! LOL :nana

Have same problem in our office. Fine when it's kept at acceptable levels, but for anyone who suffers from migraine or neuralgia, loud music can be a trigger. When I get an attack it lasts for 5-7 days. Have now told manager if it doesn't go down a bit I'm gonna end up off on the sick, despite any warnings he may give me. The radio soon gets turned down a bit. And btw, my singing is probably more of a problem than the radio, cos I love a good sing along :) Pretty sure the customers think I'm drunk half the time when they come into the office :)

It's on really loud in our office too - Heart FM. A few in the office would rather do without it but it seems their opinion doesn't matter. I'm not fussed either way, except for the choice of station. Get 6 Music on and I might side with the noisy faction.
I staged a Roger Moore impersonator festival in my local village. There were a lot of eyebrows raised, I can tell you.

If our radio went it would make the place even more like a feckin morgue than it already is,the Hitler Youth`s would be even more obnoxious if they thought I actually had to listen to them instead of the old radio.

Had the same thing in our office, bloody loud radio on some god-awful station. Then one day someone nicked the pluggy bit. It was heaven. But being the rep everyone moaned at me and I promised to look into it.

After three days I issued a statement saying that I had made enquiries but so far I had no leads :d'oh! :d'oh! :d'oh!

Each to their own. I prefer it when the radio is on as it provides a distraction from the same tired garbage that the office loudmouths spout day-in, day-out.
