Typical of the southerners bringing us all down to their level. Up here we just get on with the job, we're grateful to be on 5 days, let alone 4. It wasn't that long ago we were on 6 days!

I've had another week of hearing from customers how bad we are, due to the lazy southern postmen and their bad practices and bad management.

You bring the rest of us down

I am sorry to say this but I am disappointed by a some of the posts on this thread especially the ones that have not questioned the bias of the Dispatches Producers. I always thought that the "TV generation" was a misnomer put out by people trying to make a point. However, when I see posts on here criticising posties that appeared for only a few minutes at most, and therefore in no way could it be considered a complete review of the whole discussion, only a snippet edited for impact, yet some have swallowed it without question.

Come on people don't be passive and just sit there absorb what they want you to, instead if a subject interests you so much you have to make a comment on it, then do yourselves a justice and investigate it further. Never accept anything at face value, question everything and comment from knowledge not supposition.

"Welcome, not to the TV Generation, but the MacTv Generation."
He might have been on a mission to bring Royal Mail down.

However certain quotes and actions do not lie like,

"i could do this walk but i'm not going to, why should i" ITS YOUR JOB, thats why!

Guys coming back after delivering for 30mins cos the conditions are too bad then saying they are going shopping.
At the time the north west was the worst hit by the snow yet we all managed to get our jobs done.

WE came across as a bunch of lazy so and so's again, due to the southern postmen. The strikes are usually to benefit the southerners too.

The company is unbelievably southern based its a joke. Royal Mail is one of the few jobs out there where we finish and go home, alot of other jobs you have to stay till your hours are up. We've had a good run but now things are harder, with more competition around yet some staff are still living in the 80s where you're home by 10am, times change and in a time where unemployment is massive people need to move with it or leave the job and stop bringing the rest of us down.

What's thieving got to do with anything. You get bad eggs everywhere, however every time we've gone on strike and i've lost money, more often than not it has come from people down south who wont just get on with their job and are too busy trying to get one up on the management.

This could go back to being a great job if people pulled their fingers out but there's too many interested in arguing over nothing.

Why don't you read the thread - or is that too contradictory to your half arsed, half baked & half witted conclusions.....how would you like it if I said something equally dumb, like "Bloody northern monkeys....screwing up this job cos you ain't go no back bone, and surrender as soon as RM tell you to do something?" I might as well....cos if you bothered to spend anytime reading this ( or any ) thread, you'd learn that many southern offices ( in Kent, Essex, Herts, Middx, Hants, E & W Sussex, Surrey, London, Bucks, etc, etc )work just as hard as anywhere else, also the two offices featured had been in the thick of last year's EA and ensuring stirkes, and a lot of people felt so abused by RM, they were in no frame of mind to do more than they had to....finally ( and most tellingly ) compare Dispatches with Panorama...

1: Location - Two offices in South London vs one office in South London ( with RMs blessing ) and a postie in the Midlands IIRC giving his view, out on his walk
2: People interviewed - Paul Tolson of RM in addition to a serving OPG away from management vs three people all of whom have a vested interest in RM getting privatised
3: Slant of journalism - "We've heard that posties are being told to do what is not possible....is this true?" vs "We think we've heard that posties are lazy with bad practices.....can we prove it?"

Finally mancpat, posties like you drag the rest of the union down ( but maybe that doesn't bother you if your sub money goes to the CMA )

PS, mancpat, IIRC it was London posties that went out a f*ck of a long time before Manchester did......so maybe you should stick your northern prejudice, and concentrate on supporting all OPGs, supporting your union, and asking more can you do!

Seeing as mancpat has just joined I had a quick butcher's at his previous posts....apart from those above, he likes the idea of later Saturdays ( so his office will be clear and Mondays might be lighter ) and in response to someone falling off their bike, which resulted in a fractured arm needing surgery he said this
mancpat wrote:I'd learn to ride a bike properly tbh

No wonder they're taking our bikes off us when people are falling off them with nobody around

Job and finish ceased to exist with either part 3 or part 4 of P&M (can't remember which part).

At least quote the complete sentence - he said "I could beast this walk and get it done, but why should I". Meaning that he would have to beast himself every day to do what was being asked of him. Even the manager said some days they could not complete on time - he said that on camera.

Everyone knows where I work and we only failed one day when the DOM would not let us go out because of Black Ice and I would concede your point expect for one thing - he was a casual you could see that as he was not wearing a uniform. Check photo

No - yes there were some lazy ones in the program but there are lazy ones in every office and to tar a whole group because of the actions of a few is crass and pointless.

A big clue to how bad the journalism was in this program was the title "Post Office Undercover " - yet I never saw a Crown Office, only Royal Mail Letters Operational offices.

I know I wrote the rules about not calling people with different views managers, but sometimes I think some are so blatant about it without actually saying what they are, that they look like they were planted by RM HQ.

It never ceases to amaze me that some people want to blame London for everything. Royal Mail do it all the time typical of their statement after the dispatches but to have fellow union members believing it and seeing everything north of watford as great and everything south as crap is so stupid.

The union has strong offices and weak offices , that is the same in London as it is anywhere. The only difference is that in London we tend to stick together more.

For the record London rejected regional pay in 1988 and took 3 weeks non stop strike action in support of national pay bargining if we were so selfish and stole everything from everyone else why did we reject regional pay bargining ?

Why because we believe in a national union. Thats why we have never done the work of others when they have been on strike , can some of you in mail centres say the same. We know who did our work last year and that was shameful !!!

For the record in London our members were told that the streets were icy and in some cases dangous and they never had any chains and if you wanted to risk going out then to be careful. Some offices did go out whilst others didt.

We have good postman and women like anywhere else . The only difference is that our members had been out on 20 strike days defending their terms and conditions and to force Royal Mail to provide you with a national agreement. If it was not for London and the other areas who took strike action there would have never been a national ballot and you would not be asking about whether we are close to a national deal.
