How about if there's another Iraqi by the window?

"Which one do I need to see?"
"Try the Iraqi by the door".

So, that sounds "dodgy" does it?

Of course it does.Who speaks like that?
Unless the guy is draped in the Iraqi flag how do i know who you are talking about?
Unless i am to decide his nationality by the colour of his skin.?Surely that's not what you mean. :hmmmm
It is whether you accept it or not a non-descriptive tag designed to provoke a reaction.

[quote="Tman"]

You make it sound dodgy, by insinuating that being an Iraqi is somehow shameful, and not to be spoken about.

Save me the schoolyard psycology Tman, being German/French/Italian/Jewish/Muslim/gay/disabled are also not shameful but these words have been hijacked for so long they are more often than not used as an insult.

You mate are well out of order, what relevance does it have that hes iraqi and a bloke, try describing the individual in a better way which is not so descriptive, i mean what is the relevence of the individual being a man? An iraqi woman could in theory be just as incompetent.

Dont you just love the PC gestapo
Did'nt you know. Its deemed racist by some. Same as an English BLOKE i spose or is that exceptable??? :hmmmm

Only if nationality/gender are relevant to the post.
Otherwise it's just "tagging" designed to provoke a reaction in the reader. :hmmmm
You just don't get it creedscat.

IPS why do you feel the need to describe someone by nationality when it has no relevance?. :hmmmm
How am i provoking a reaction??? By stating something as i see it!!! Are you really that desperate to try and pick holes in my posts?? All i have done is describe someone as i see it ffs!! If the bloke was english or german i would of stated it. I dont need to explain my post as others with an average iq level or above have already explained it to you. Get a grip!!

f**k me, it makes you wonder how the old bill do thier jobs when they are giving a description of a villain ffs. "Sierra oscor we have a person running down the road with a dvd player, cant give you a full description as it might offend somebody on the airwaves listening in" :chuckle

It's funny that no-one wants to respond to the assertion that racism is usually insidious and not blatant.
Do any of you know what "institutionalized racism" is? I am sure most of the good officers at the Met would have said they didn't care if criminals were pink or blue blah blah blah but the reality is completely different.Did the Lawrence enquiry never happen in your world?
And really when you need to rely on Tman to make your arguments for you, then you know you have lost.
To lower a serious debate about racism to the level of "what about the Iraqi bloke by the window" is childish in the extreme and you really should be ashamed of yourself.
You have posted some crap on RMC but you really are scraping the barrel now.
I assume a moderator removed the capital letters that were present in the original post yet didn't remove the offending words, so come on moderator explain yourself.
With over 20 000 posts TBT, your silence is deafening in this thread, especially when according to your own posts you're not exactly a White Anglo-Saxon.

A few things -

1. I have not got involved in this debate on whether or not its a racist thread or not as on this matter I have to stand apart. I have my views but to close a thread just because people are disagreeing with each other on what constituents racism or not seems a little OTT. One of the problems we have with immigration, which ever side of the argument you fall on, is the inability of politicians to have a serious discussion without someone playing the racists/BNP card, if people respect the rights of others to disagree and the thread stays relatively polite and will let it run.

2. I will delete any posts I believe break any rules as of yet none, in my opinion do.

3. My silence is deafening - why just because I don't comment on this thread until now and even if I had not commented there are a lot of other threads and I normally look in the Blue Shirts last because its the most active.

4. I will not divulge my background as I believe it is immaterial. I will state however, that in other countries around the world I have been subject to racism but I certainly do not think that describing me by my skin colour or country of origin is either overtly racist or even institutionally racist in of its itself - as with most things it is dependant on the context it is used in. For instance and this is only my opinion "The Norwegian fellow cant understand or read English" is descriptive and if none of the facts are in question its not racist, OK it might be better not to include his nationality, but including it does not mean its a racist comment. However "That Norwegian cannot read or understand English, that's typical of them lazy buggers" is most definietly racist and imho not acceptable.

I have seen no racism in this thread, only someone over reacting, it really is getting to the stage you are afraid to talk in this country for fear of upsetting someone.

I changed the case from Capital Letters to Title case or lower case as it removed the emphasis which is what someone complained about. It did not change the post but it changed the emphasis.

It's funny that no-one wants to respond to the assertion that racism is usually insidious and not blatant.
It could be either; where's the need for a reply?
Do any of you know what "institutionalized racism" is? I am sure most of the good officers at the Met would have said they didn't care if criminals were pink or blue blah blah blah but the reality is completely different.Did the Lawrence enquiry never happen in your world?
I'm sure we've all heard the term, but quoting it here proves nothing, (unless you merely wish to be seen as condescending in some way....?)
And really when you need to rely on Tman to make your arguments for you, then you know you have lost.
Why's that? That seems more like nothing more than a crass insult to me. Had I responded with something like "that CCR, don't listen to him as he likes the Clash FFS" you would then have (rightly) thought "he's run out of ideas...." Bizarre logic you use.
To lower a serious debate about racism to the level of "what about the Iraqi bloke by the window" is childish in the extreme and you really should be ashamed of yourself.
You need to reread what was written. I was showing that the statement " the Iraqi by the window etc" could be perfectly innocent and most definitely not "dodgy".
If anyone should be ashamed it's those who seek (and invariably find) perceived examples of racism where there's none, or none intended, because that's the very people who like to keep the old pot boiling....

With over 20 000 posts TBT, your silence is deafening in this thread, especially when according to your own posts you're not exactly a White Anglo-Saxon.
So you do think race should play a part in people's actions, then? How very hypocritical..... :shhhhh

Sadly certain people will look for and find "racism" in just about anything you write or say.
This topic is a great example of that.Honestly some of the stuff I've seen posted is beyond caricature.

So the problem is percieved racism and not racism itself? Why is it rubbish to be PC? Is it far better to be politically incorrect?
How do we deal with insidious racism if we are not prepared to stand up and point it out?
I stand by my previous post - I would rather sometimes see racism where it isn't than ignore it where it is.

Are they? Wonder if the "German/ French/Italians etc" see those words as in any way insulting? Wouldn't have thought so, personally.....

These are your opinions and you are entitled to them but that does not always mean it is true.
Personally I didn't believe it was racist but it is inadvisable to start a post with someones nationality and then continue the post with comments about special treatment.
Too many people jumped onto the thread to say it wasn't racism without giving any coherent reason why not.
That is in my opinion mob mentality on a forum.
I think the fact that the original post has been changed now and reads in a completely different way makes this thread redundant.
