They'd save money on pay slips...

Actually, I'm surprised our payslips haven't got "UK MAIL" on the top right corner...... Yet.....

Would the CWU support members who wish to move to monthly pay?

dazzlin72, I think your mate might be right about a £2000 bung to go to monthly pay. However, you should read Big Daz's post about what happened to the drivers - they had to pay the £2k back over 12months.

Incidentally, £2k spread over 12 months works out at a deduction of £166.67 per month. Seems to me you've got the wrong end of the stick and the £40/week increase you are trumpeting may actually be a year-long DECREASE of £160/month (equivalent to approx £36.92/week) :evil/mad

Monthly pay is coming, it's obvious RM want it.
Managers are on it.
Drivers are on it.
Office/admin staff are on it.
Hmmm, who's left ???

They'll cut lots of jobs in payroll departments, as wages queries will all come in a flood every 30 days, then very few enquiries for the rest of the month, until the next monthly wage slips go out  You don't need all those staff on hand if relatively few calls come in for most of the month

A little maths for perusal :

D2D: 5 per week x 500 drops = 2500 items for £20.00 - ie 0.8p per item!
D2D: 5 per week x 400 drops = 2000 items for £20.00 - ie 1p per item!
D2D: 5 per week x 300 drops = 1500 items for £20.00 - ie 1.33p per item!

Wage increase of £160 pcm x 12 months / 52.2 weeks = £36.78pw - ie £36.78 / £347.61 = 10.6% increase (over 3 years).
Inflation likely to rise in 3 year period following Quantitative Easing
3 years at 2% inflation = 102% x 102% x 102% = 106.1% ie 6.1%
3 years at 3% inflation = 103% x 103% x 103% = 109.3% ie 9.3%
3 years at 4% inflation = 104% x 104% x 104% = 112.5% ie 12.5%

Basic full-time pay = £347.61pw x 52.2 weeks / 12 months = £1512 pcm.
Initial monthly payment of £2000 less £1512 = £488 excess.

i am a lgv driver, when we went to monthly pay, we had a £80 per week payrise, this was funded by going to monthly pay, because royal mail, was banking the interest while the money was in the bank for the month instead of them paying us weekly, but then that was nearly 3 years ago before the credit crunch when the rates were high, and also we were given a 'loan' of 2000 for a first month and we had to pay it back straight out your wages over 12 months, which works out at about £166 a month. all in all monthly pay aint nothing to worry about, you soon get used to it

On the D2D point, I already get an average of £22 a week for three, why would I want to take a cut in income to take out even more of them?

so is your mate part of the talks then?

 Like the 400 quid judas money before--people will look at this and see only money. Hope they do not stick their hands up for this--indeed there has to be a peoperly conducted ballot to see if Members accept, not a show of hands in each office.

D2D into basic makes sense if you take the emotion out of the issue. If its £20 per week, thats pensionable, you get it when your on leave, you get it over the christmas period, you get it when your sick. Work out the figures you gotta divide the payments over 42-43 weeks and not 52.

If its in your workload then you can do em on a Monday and Tuesday, stops them trying to lapse on those days.

I started on weekly pay, went to monthly when I joined a North Sea Oil Company, Fortnightly when I got made redundant :cry , cash in hand running a Playbus, and ended up back on weekly pay again with RM for over 18 years. Now it comes monthly from three different sources spread through the month

You soon learn to adapt :chuckle
