No, but what they have done is brainwashed people into not changing things they disagree with, and into to accepting the indefensible, believing that the staus quo cant be changed and that if you don't like it you should leave. Of course this ignores the irony that if you don't question inequalities they don't stay the same, they get worse. Therefore to my way of thinking if you don't like something you have 3 options.
1. Stay Do nothing and its gets worse for everyone
2. Leave and not only does it get worse for those left, but it has a downwards pressure on the rest of society.
3. Voice your opinion and try to change the status quo. It won't always work but it is the only option if you want to improve matters, or just to keep things as they are.
The argument to leave if you don't like it is the most insidious and poisonousness one in my opinion. People complain that some have better terms and conditions than others, well that's because people questioned the status quo and won. To accept the argument that if the changes are unacceptable, you should leave and let others do the job that want to, only reinforces the pressure to reduce every employees T&Cs by every employer till we all reach minimum wage and minimal entitlements.
Its the politics of envy and jealousy acting in the wrong direction. "They are getting more than me so they should be brought down to my level", rather than "What can I do so I get the same as they do". Some people always want others to make the sacrifice or are just too lazy to make a stand.
